You mentioned you had a Z3 in your first post. I've developed lower back problems over the years and couldn't sit in the Z3 for more than an hour without getting out. No problem with the Boxster. The newer Boxsters have the top which is so easy to raise and lower that it's almost as quick as working one of the door windows. Steveby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
Congratulations on what was a good joint decision. You certainly have had enough time with the open car experience to know how enjoyable it is. I'm glad to see another former Z3 owner around here. I just bought our 2010 Boxster in April, and my wife has grown to love it. She never did take to the Z3. She is attracted to the styling of the 981, so I think that we will probably end up with oneby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
Your other option is to keep what you have for now rather than buying a 981 version 1.0. This reminds me of the introduction of the Corvette C6. I had a C5 and decided to keep it for a couple of years and wait for improvements. It was a wise choice in that case and I am very happy with my 2008 C6. There were major improvements in the 2008 model year. In the case of the 981, I am betting therby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum

Also, the nice thing about aerobatic flying compared to HPDE is that I could do it to my heart's content at high altitude without fear of crashing. I used to own a Citabria, no longer an active pilot.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum

Just as a matter of interest, the residual value tends to be lower than the actual value of the car in Porsche's case. I bought my Boxster from a fellow who had it on lease and sold it to me as the lease came due. I'm sure he made money on the deal, and it was a good deal for me as well. The loser was the Porsche dealer who would have turned it around and sold it for a much higher price as a Cby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
I don't know if anyone else here owns both a Boxster and a Corvette, but I have to say that they are two completely different cars. I own a 2008 Corvette coupe with the Z51 autocross suspension and manual transmission. Performance numbers don't convey the huge difference in "feel" between the two. The Boxster allows me to feel every imperfection in the road surface, and not in a bad way. Theby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
It's actually in the owner's manual, along with other warnings. I do have some concern about your project car, but the danger depends on the track. If you don't have a long, extended high g turn, you're probably OK.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
Porsche still advises against slicks on the newer cars, which should answer your question. Steveby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
I would go about it differently. A foam attachment that would fit over the buckle and could easily be removed and stowed in the glove box when not needed would solve the problem. I hope Pedro is monitoring this thread. Steveby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
I'm sure you will have more to report after the break-in period is done and you can use the "S" power. I find I'm getting more attached to my obsolete 987 as I put more miles on it, and I'm sure the same will hold for you and your 981. Steveby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
While the 987 characteristics are still fresh in your mind, it would be useful for those of us who see the possibility of a 981 in our future to get your opinion on the greatest advantages in the new car. Congrats again! Sorry, I meant this as a reply to Guenther's original post. Is there a way to fix this? Steveby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
I had the Boxster in for a warranty repair on the driver's side outside mirror which was loose. I had an A4 Quattro loaner and was not happy at all with the steering feel. The prospect of driving it on a slippery road where the first indicator of traction loss would be purely visual with no feedback from the steering was something I would not look froward to. I don't know if it has electricallby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum

I'm sure you know Porsche warns against the use of track tires due to oiling issues under high g loads. Have you modified the sump on the motor?by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
My BMWCCA membership expires in September, so I still get the Roundel magazine. The editor had some very good things to say about Dynaplug in the latest issue after trying it out. I just ordered the kit, and hope not to write a users review of it.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
Very sorry to hear about it. It wouldn't hurt to see who the local Porsche dealer recommends for body work.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
The Vette is faster, has more luggage space, than the Boxster, but lacks the Boxster's intimate connection with the road. The Vette steering feels dead after driving the Boxster. The Vette is immune to hail damage and door dings, which can be handy in certain situations. The Honda can't be beat for getting you there in a Minnesota winter.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
I don't know if the OP is a potential buyer, but there are things that go way beyond percentage off list price. First, one has to take into account that all of the dealer factory orders are PDK. If a buyer is looking for a new manual at a discount, I would guess that the options are severely limited. Then, if you want a PDK, one could search nationwide for a dealer with the color and options dby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
I noticed in the R&T test of the GT3, after the complaints about no manual transmission available, they mentioned improvements in the electrically assisted steering due to improved firmware. No mention was made as to whether these improvements would migrate to other models.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum

I have put some miles on my Boxster since I last posted. No more problems with the 1-2 shift now. The slight pause in neutral has become natural. In a couple of weeks I'll be introducing myself to the local dealer service department for some warranty work. The drivers side outside mirror has something loose which causes a rattle and vibration. It took me awhile to figure out how to demonstraby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
I would come at this a bit more on the cautious side. Find a good independent Porsche shop in your area and have it flat-bedded to them. If it's a good shop, they will know that they will be seeing you for some ongoing routine maintenance and will not rip you off. Please stay around and keep us informed on your progress. When I ordered our 2008 Corvette, there were several well known discount dealers that dealt cash only. Same for our Honda Pilot in 2005. I don't think there are similar dealers for Porsche. Steveby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
You aren't looking for your car to blow up in 18 months, are you? Anyway, I just went through the process of buying a late model used Boxster myself. You will find most are in the hands of dealers, so you will probably be looking at paying the dealer markup and not be quite sure of what you are getting. Specifically, if you search Autotrader now for a Boxster with manual transmission model yeaby SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
If there is a positive aspect to the IMS situation, it is that there are a lot more people that aren't afraid to dig into a Porsche engine than there were back in the days when all anybody talked about was the RMS. There is an independent shop in the Minneapolis area that is actively recruiting customers for IMS bearing replacement and advertising in the newsletter of the local Porsche club.by SteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) - Main Forum
