My '99's speedometer reads a consistent 3mph high, GPS and "Your Speed Is" signs read 27 when the speedo reads 30, 67 when the speedo reads 70. Most countries require a buffer to ensure they never under-report speed: Wikipedia - Speedometer Readings - International Agreementsby BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
Last weekend was beautiful, you went South, we went North to the Hopland Wine Passport event. Great Mendocino wines and perfect weather. We picked up a case a Jaxon Keys Chardonnay for $50 on special. We also picked up a case of McNab Ridge ’09 Cora that fell victim to a bottling error; the front and rear labels both appeared on the front, so it couldn’t be sold retail. My buddy and I pickeby BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
I found that two of mine were leaking and at ~$12 for the tube and O-ring assembly, I just bought 6 and did an "extended" spark plug job. I followed Pedro's instructions and stopped by the local boat/marine store and picked up a transom plug, it couldn't have been easier!by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
I drove the 25 miles for the first year, then had the car down for repairs and was forced to try the train. I can walk to the train station and my employer runs a free shuttle to and from the end station, so it became a no-brainer. When gas was $3/gal, it was break even... not including the cost incurred for tires, oil changes and other wear & tear a thousand miles a month put on the Boxsteby BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
Mine is a daily driver as well. My commute has varied over the years, for most of the ownership it was ~5 miles each way. Recently my commute jumped to 25 miles each way, so I jumped on the train and it took months to go from 98k - 100k.by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
They're polarized to eliminate my Savanna glare, fit great and best of all, I bought them at REI so they have a lifetime guarantee! I am on my third replacement pair. They come with polarized lenses for full sun and yellow lenses for boarding in snowy conditions. Love 'em!by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
Quotejwdbox Speaking of maintenance, is your windshield wiper fluid low? I've NEVER used the Litronics washer system and while driving down the freeway I accidentally engaged it, spraying my newly washed car in the process. I must have caused a hose to pop off and now the fluid runs straight to the ground. Someday I'll pull off the fender liner and/or trunk liner and track down the leak. No fancy numerology ala Pedro, but captured the moment just the same. 1999 with original engine, clutch and seals. I have replaced a failed AOS, Water Pump, Coolant tank and performed routine maintenance. I've always used Mobil 1 and up until 75k did oil changes at 15k intervals, since then I have bumped it up to 7.5k. Looking forward to the next 100,000!by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
Pretty much sums up Marc contributions to this board; "Marc gave me some very good pointers... He was right" I had to do the brakes on the Ford today. It makes me appreciate how well Porsche understands routine maintenance. The Boxster brakes are so easy to work on! The Ford mechanism was much better than my daughters VW Bettle in my opinion.by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
There must have been some event, because I actually saw 2 458s on the drive. Amazing sound!by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
You see how far away I parked.by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
Played hooky and Joanie & I took a drive up Skyline today. We had lunch at Alice's Restaurant, stopped by Yerba Buena Nursery and Thomas Fogarty Winery. Beautiful day! I'm not an F-Car expert, but I believe this is an 458 Italia Yerba Buena Nusery The view Here is my version of the Windows screensaverby BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
I would agree with Grant. There are a few sources in that area where spraying of a de-greaser and checking again may help you narrow it down.by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
I love the Porsche logo, but I'm more proud of the blood donor fob. I got this over 25 years ago and have lost count, but I'm sure it's well over 6 gallons. It's a gift that can't be bought. If you don't currently donate, consider it.by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
The fluid looked like maple syrup coming out. I do seem to notice a slightly smoother shift, but if was good before and good now, so now I'm covered for the next 90K \ Thanks to Alden at Flintworks for hosting a great event. Flintworks Spring Car Care Dayby BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
coolant tank or water pump, whichever dies first.by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
I think they are intended to save water, not necessarily reduce germ transmission, but you have a point.by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
When my driver's side xenon failed, it would flicker when turned on, then immediately go dark. I considered the switch, but since the passenger side worked fine I opted to replace the driver's side bulb and that did the trick. Since you are having problems with both, the light switch sounds suspect. (the light switch is a LOT more that the ignition switch unfortunately)by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
At the office we have IR sensors on the sink faucets. I find when I get home I hold my hands under the sink and wait for the water to turn on.by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
I was commuting 45 miles a day, but have been taking the train for the past several months, so my climb to 100k has slowed dramatically. Congrats on your milestone!by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum

I bought mine from EPIQ Autosport, but I don't think they're still around. It was started by a couple of PPBBers in So-Cal. Some of the older posters may remember EPICTodd aka TeutonicTrioby BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
Even though I don't smoke, I did do the Lefteris intake mesh screen hack many years back just in case.by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
Moral #2: Fire extinguishers are your friend. Not to say is could have saved this poor Boxster, but still a good idea.by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
I see some posts on Rennlist and 986forum. I know there have been some DIYs for adding wire mesh to older model air intakes. I have found quite a bit of junk in my air box, so it doesn't sound too far fetched that a carelessly discarded butt could wind up there, but I'd put my money on a fuel leak of some kind.by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
You can use them to check the connections as well. I used this when I changed a bulb recently. Skyler's Litronics Installation Instructionsby BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
