The bees in my neighborhood love P21S Carnuba Wax, every time I detail, it's like applying bee pheromones. The only downside is I'm highly allergic to bee stings. I once had a grasshopper hanging on my driver's window. I drove 12 miles to work, at times hitting 80mph on the freeway and the little trooper held on for the entire ride. I think he enjoyed it.by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
I agree AND there is great sense of accomplishment when you master the skill of re-folding a map!by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
Nice write-up, sounds like a great car. As for storage of the maps, I suggest we send satellites into space, triangulate your location and send all the data to an electronic device, I shall call it... a GPS! Happy CURVEN8ing!by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
Thanks Grant, that's what I normally use, just ordered from Pelican. I replace mine every 30k too.by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
This is my '99 daily driver. I plan to change the oil & filter, (every 5k), air filter, cabin filter and swap out the brake fluid. What plugs are the cool kids putting in their 986s these days? One electrode, two, four, ten?by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
Condolences, Grant. Our Shepherd mixes, Cayman & Cayenne are 7 and 6, dogs should live a lot longer!by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
I wonder if they'd allow ASS MAN?by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
Thom4782, I read your post a day too late. I bought a can of AC Pro at Pep Boys - San Carlos (apparently we're neighbors ) and recharged. The AC is MUCH colder, hopefully there won't be any detrimental results. I guess if I screwed it up, I'll pick up a discarded HVAC unit from a spec racer. Keepin' it cool in San Carlos, it was 96 yesterday.by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
Thanks guys. This product does have a gauge and decent DIY page on their site, so I think I may be recharging soon. BTW everybody knows Ultra Synthetic leaves Synthetic in the dust!by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
QuotePedro (Weston, FL) n/t You're right, you have to go to Costco for the 5 Gallon jugs.by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
I heard a radio ad for an AC recharge product - ACPRO. Has anybody used it in a Boxster? After 14 years, my '99 is still cool, but I recall it being a lot cooler. I know Freon is a tricky product, so I assume this is something else. Is this snake oil or could I help get through the triple digit weather we're experiencing here in CA? Any chance the same company that manufactures the batteries for the 918 also supplies the Boeing 787 Dreamliner?by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
When I find t, I buy the 5 gallon jugs of Mobil 1 at Wal*Mart, add $10 for the filter. I also bought a half dozen crush rings when I ordered a filter from Pelican Part for a few bucks. I transfer the oil from the catch pans to empty laundry detergent bottles for free curbside recycling. I change mine every 5kby BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum

I used Titan Sintopoid Transmission Fluid (Transaxle) SAE 75W-90 from Pelican Parts for $14.50 per liter. That was 30k miles ago, no complaints.by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
There is local guy near Santa Cruz, CA, Canepa Design that preps the 959s to make them legal. He has one for sale on his site, no price listed (if you have to ask... ) Canepa Design 959by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
I built a set out of some scrap 2x4s and they work great.by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
We bought a beetle for our daughter and took it to Jiffy Lube for an oil change. The skid plate under the engine had some bizarre multi-point, torx-like bolts. They didn't have a bit that fit. I had to go to 3 tool shops before I found one that fit. I'm sure this is concerted effort by VW to steer routine maintenance away from DIYers and non-dealer shops.by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum

1999 - 118k daily driver - no IMS issuesby BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
I replaced mine at a local upholstery shop in 2004 for ~$600 and when it split again in 2012, I bought an entire top and frame from a well maintained, garaged, hard top equiped Boxster that was converting to a Spec Racer. I paid ~$400 for the entire top & frame and swapping the frame is a pretty simple DIY when compared to retrofting a new top, plastic or glass, on a existing frame. It's not a "dead" smell, we had horses and it reminds me of horse by-products. It is strongest on start up and fades. Is there the equivelent of A/C Fabreeze? My wife says it smells electrical so that's a bit more disconcerting..by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
