Will find a local shop with a Hunter and get the alignment done. Thanks for the input!by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum

This point is not all that clear in the various directions posted. It is clear that the A/C system should be running at full blast for a few minutes prior, but is the system left on and running while the refrigerant is added?by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
Guess we need to drive the Boxster into the corners harder!!!by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
Last Summer we noticed that our rear tires were wearing faster on the inside. The front had similar issues, but not as bad. We had the wheels balanced and the camber adjusted when we put on the Winter tires. When we pulled the Winter tires off the Boxster, the rear inside edges was pretty beaten up. We won't be able to use them again next year. Tire inflation was probably not the cause as the prby RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
While the screen on the GPS is helpful, we find that one can't really focus much on the details when driving...so after having reviewed and used a few over the years, the important features we've found are: - upgradeable maps (should be free) - clear voice directions (some can be REALLY annoying after a while) - touch screen input (most new ones have it) As for mounting, ProClip is pretty muchby RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
There is something to what you say about the shiny bits, but we don't think there will ever be the day when Porsche feels the need to compete with the likes of Buick. At least, let us hope there won't be :-) As for the color...it is hard to top black, red, or silver as the perfect color for a sports car.by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
Did not see any all-electric Porsche at the show, but there were plenty of other PEVs there...follow the link for the write-up: While some may be concern about how quiet PEVs are, we think the silence is a welcome change, especially when driving out in the country. The tech is maturing, but there are still quite a chicken and egg thing going on. Perhaps when gas is $10 or $20/gallon, then theby RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
It is a nice light subtle green, but the color was difficult to judge (and even more difficult to photograph) as there were color spotlights everywhere. However, the paint had a metallic layer and sparkled nicely.by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
We were in NYC for the press preview of the NYIAC. Thought some of you may be interested in getting a closer look at the details of the new Boxster 981: Click on any of the images for a larger version.by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
You can do a temporary fix by using a dab of E6000 sealant to keep the water out while you decide. The hack was a suggestion posted on this board last Spring. We did a fix just to keep the water out while waiting for the new top to be delivered: When the top arrived, we decided to see how long the fix would hold. It lasted all season, so we have yet to put on the new top. We'll see what the cby RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
Probably will just stick with charging the system as needed until something more drastic happens. Even though the Boxster does have AC, using it with the top down was kind of a luxury :-) As we drove a Nissan Pathfinder for 15 years which did not have AC, we are kind of used to living without it.by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
Especially for those of us in the Northeast where AC is not as necessary.by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
Of course, after a few weeks of record-breaking warmth...we may get hit with 20ยบ temps in Boston tonight. Good thing we didn't change out the Winter tires and pull the hard top (was quite tempted, but knew better from past experiences with April snow storms). Winter is not completely over yet :-)by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
Our AC unit is not cooling as it was last Fall. Probably can use a recharge. Wondering if anyone has had any thoughts/ experience with aftermarket recharging kits.by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum

Fairfield Porsche was kind enough to save the seized water pump for us...so we brought it back to our mechanic (Al at Gerardo's on Hyde Park Ave in Boston). Al pinged Prime Porsche's parts dept and explained that both of the pumps purchased from them (2006, 2010) had failed. Prime agreed that it was unusual and is willing to refund the dealer price on the latest pump. Guess a few hundred bucksby RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
Turning the pump by hand was very rough...no free spin at all.by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
You called it....the customer service was incredible. The car was fixed in a day and was spotless when we picked it up.by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
Definitely was not inexpensive, but when you are 200 miles from home...getting it fixed right by someone trust-worthy is primary. Just happy that we were able to drop it off at a Porsche dealer instead of some random garage :-) Also glad that we didn't have to wait 3 hours for a tow truck to show up...all in all, with the exception of the pump failing, EVERY other thing (when we decided to pullby RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
Fantastic service from Fairfield Porsche...they got the car on Tues, did the work on Wed, and we picked it up Thursday AM. Took a 6:30 AM Amtrak from Boston to Conn and was on the road back to Boston by 9:30... The service person (Dianne Bodge) was extremely professional, amazingly accommodating, and very helpful. We can see if we were a long time customer that a service manager would go the extby RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
Lucky break that the problem happened just two miles from a porsche dealer! Would appreciate any comments/experiences with that particular dealer.by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
The RCA jacks just dangle. We added an inline filter ($7 from Radio Shack) for the hum. You can make a hole in the back of one of the empty trays under the radio to pass the connectors through.by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
Have to agree with you...an OEM system would be at least a few generations behind in tech (UI, sensitivity, etc..). Besides, updated maps for the OEM systems would probably be expensive and always behind those from dedicated GPS vendors. Just seem like a big waste of money and effort for no real benefits.by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
Should be able to hit it sometime this Winter....by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
This is probably the last season for the 16" Blizzak, but can't seem to find anyone the sell 16" snow tires for the Boxsters for the past two years. Anyone with good experiences with another brand in that size?by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
Have had the snow tires on since the snow storm in Oct. Glad we didn't put the hardtop on at the same time. Still in the 60s in the middle of November in Boston... was able to drive around with top down last night. Crazy!by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
The pads and sensors were replace in the Spring...the light came on shortly after the replacement and have stayed on. Pulled and looked at all of the sensors this AM when putting on the snow tires (Yes.. snow possible for MA later this week). They look fine visually, but perhaps one of them is bad? Any other reasons why the service light would be on other than a bad sensor?by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
In June someone on this board suggested the use of the E6000 adhesive as a temporary fix for sealing the cracks to the rear window. We had 1-2" cracks on both sides and at the bottom right corner. A storm was on its way and we needed something to tide us over until we can get around to putting on the new top. It was a very wet Spring in New England and we never got around to replacing the top.by RainyDayGarage - Main Forum
