I just was wondering if any of you can hear a faint cycling chirping at low speeds on your boxsters? I am wondering if it's because I removed the clips on the back of the brake pads that seat into the pistons? and it's just a little play of the brake pads in the hardware while driving down the street.... I removed the dampening clips because I change pads and wheels the night before I go to theby Petee_C - Main Forum
oops.... miscalculated the value of a used 2009-2010 boxster..... I'll be waiting a few years.... back to the '01S that I already own, and is paid for....by Petee_C - Main Forum
any oiling problems on the track with the 2009/2010+ motors?by Petee_C - Main Forum
Got a 2001 S, bought it in June 2009, so I just passed my 10 yr anniverasary with it.... She runs fine, and needs a little care - just got rips in the rear window last week... Over the past 12 months or so, I've been tracking it more... been out about 8 or so times since May 2018... I'm wondering about the oil upgrades for it, IMS change (might be original).... and the new roof.... I starteby Petee_C - Main Forum
after almost 10 yrs of ownership, my 18 year old plastic rear window cracked this morning while putting it down at the gas station... I guess I openned it too far before getting out to do the chop. I chop every morning that I put the roof down, and about 50% of the time in the afternoon (the vinyl usually is hot enough I don't bother). i try to drive the boxster at least 1-2x/week April toby Petee_C - Main Forum
I got it from Amazon, They make dyes for either oil based fluids, or water based fluids. I had the oil based because I was originally going to use it to detect a oil leak on my old daily driver Jetta diesel. Instructions say 1/2oz treats 4-6 qts of oil. I put most of 1 oz bottle in. My kit came with 6 x 1oz bottles. I drove the car for about 15 minutes to warm it up and circulate the dye aby Petee_C - Main Forum
- i'm addicted to Amazon prime... red neck preventer. sleeves I will likely order a 2nd pair of sleeves for wife (just in case she ever rides with me)by Petee_C - Main Forum
crack is about 10mm long, hasn't grown in 2 yrs... patch still water tight....by Petee_C - Main Forum
The gorilla tape has held up very well for the past 2 yrs, going up and down with no signs of failing.... Found the edges of your patch will help it last longer....by Petee_C - Main Forum
Pic of one of the patches about 2 yrs later... Windows dirty, got caught in the rain on the way to the track.by Petee_C - Main Forum
I've decided to get sunscreen sleeves.... They have them on amazon... I'm going to look for a hat that has the little Cape at the back.by Petee_C - Main Forum
https://peterchang1.blogspot.com/2019/05/raybestos-96965-brake-rotors-on-2001.html (Pagid rotors were fine, Raybestos rotors had a minor hiccup....) I will be installing the street pads in the next couple days and taking my super loud hawk pads out....by Petee_C - Main Forum
my research on the webs indicates that SunScreen degrades in heat fairly quickly.... The degradation happens because: 1.the emulsion that is the sunscreen fails - separates and gets runny, and 2. heat breaks down the active component in sunscreen.... This makes sense, as a pharmacist, we have data on stability of different drugs at different temperatures,,, Generally, at room temperatureby Petee_C - Main Forum
Hour and a half home from a trackday at Grand bend.... Arms and neck are looking pretty red.... Do you guys keep sunscreen in your boxster? What type? We usually use the aerosol clear ones at the lake, but not sure if it will survive the heat of a black boxster if parked all day in the sun with the lid up and windows closed....by Petee_C - Main Forum
How big of a tear? I found these cracks in my rear window on my 2001 back in 2017..... I made a little patch with clear gorilla tape on the inside and they have not advanced in the past 24 months... Howdy from 1.5 hrs west of you....by Petee_C - Main Forum
Thx everyone. I decided to try pagid rotors up front and raybestos rotors in the rear.... Cross drilled like stock.... A decent deal $400 including woe stop tech pads shipped to my house, north of Guenther.by Petee_C - Main Forum
I do do some cool down driving in the paddock before parking it after each session.... generally don't really get a cooldown lap.... maybe only get 1/3rd of a cooldown lap on the track after the checkered flag... I do park it in 1st without parking brake applied, and coast to my chosen parking spot without any brake pressure... Some in the spec boxster forum consider brake rotors disposable iby Petee_C - Main Forum
The sales rep emailed me and informed me that the $80 rotors were infact crossdrilled like OEM... DBA front rotors for my car are $200..... That's a 150% increase in cost.... I looked at the rotors with the wheels still on last night and can not see any cracking on my stock rotors (yet) 1st trackday of the year is 2 weeks away.... I would like to order soon...by Petee_C - Main Forum
Any noticeable difference for a beginner trackday driver? There's a cdn company that has plain fronts for $80 cdn pesos... They cater to the autosport crowd...by Petee_C - Main Forum
There are reports on the interwebs that cross drilled rotors might crack with lots of track use. I was wondering if you have seen this on the 986s boxsters... The 986s has thicker spec and larger rotors than the 986 used normally (I don't know if spec boxster uses the s rotors or not... I tracked my car on a shorter 'technical track' (lots of 2nd,3rd, and some 4th gear) for about 10 hrs lastby Petee_C - Main Forum
Thx for the review.... I have used the regular "string" plugs a bunch of times... Mostly with good results... If you don't install them properly, they will leak though (usually within the 1st day or 2)...by Petee_C - Main Forum
my radar detector displays 14.x volts when driving at highway speeds on all my vehicles.... I think that's normal.by Petee_C - Main Forum
maybe do a load test on it 1st... if the battery location is anything like the 986 series, then it would be away from any battery killing heat..... I would say keep it until you start seeing problems.... maybe have a battery booster pack in case... I hate spending money on stuff that doesn't *need* to be replaced.... some data, though not totally related.... my wife had a 11 q7 that we returby Petee_C - Main Forum
I'm intrigued by the centric's due to price... I know that Zimmerman makes a good product, and have had good success with them. I have also had good success with white box rotors too.... I paid $30cdn for a set of rear rotors for my VW Jetta which gets driven year round, and they lasted 6+ yrs.by Petee_C - Main Forum
Looking for 1st hand experiences with Centric Rotors, specifically on Boxsters or other vehicles you have driven... They seem to be a favourite on Rock Auto, not familiar with the brand. Thanks, Peterby Petee_C - Main Forum
I have a new in Box oem mount that's been waiting to go in.... I guess I might not need it after all. Tranny mount discussions?by Petee_C - Main Forum
2001 986S with over 90K miles on the clock. -pedro sport mount installed 10 yrs ago. - both rear trailing arms replaced maybe 3 yrs ago.. I spent probably 10hrs on a short technical track last year (lots of corners, only one straight - max speed GPS 165kph). The 10 hrs was over 1 day event and probably 5 evening events. I started switching to track pads after the 2nd track night, for better braby Petee_C - Main Forum
Guenther, You're fine. Keep your battery on a tender during the winter sleep, and I'm sure that you'll enjoy at least a few more seasons with it. -- not entirely familiar with the 981 platform, but if it's like the 986, the the battery is up front, the engine is behind the driver... I would expect that it doesn't get as much heat as convention layout cars with the battery and engine up fronby Petee_C - Main Forum
bad ground on starter might be another place to look, or just a dead 18 yr old starter could be other options....by Petee_C - Main Forum
