Anyone running a 'budget' tire in 2017? Well, I'm looking for recommendations. I currently have an 8 yr old front pair of Hankook Ventus v12 evo something or other (?k110), paired up with a 3-4 yr old ventus v12 something or other rear tires.... Rear tires are looking down again on tread. Strictly street use. I haven't been to the track in 5+ years.....by Petee_C - Main Forum
I'm currently googling tops now on amazon.ca ; autotopsdirect etc. I may be able to save money by getting a top sent from autotopsdirect to a mailbox place in Niagara Falls.by Petee_C - Main Forum
Patched from the inside? I plan to make a round or oval patch with the Gorilla tape... New top is probably in the plans. I am just putting it off as long as possible. I don't have money set aside right now for this. The top has been like this for a year, maybe 2. I really try to put the top down only after the plastic has warmed up... Karate chop 75% of the time. No leaks noted yet. Hoby Petee_C - Main Forum
I've seen clear gorilla tape at the hardware store. Thinking about doing a quick repair to my rear window to nurse it along. The visibility is decent. I just did some Meguair's Plastx, followed by some lemon pledge on my rear window. I have a couple weak spots at the sides of the window. Dammit, no attachment button on this forum. boxster rear window picsby Petee_C - Main Forum
Grant, That is what I am thinking as well... The $8000 quote is from the local bmw & Mercedes 'approved' collision center, I have no interest in taking it to a Porsche approved place as they are too far. Either one is At least a 3 hr round trip in good traffic (60 miles to the big smoke). There is scraping along the door handle plastic (the part you pull up on) and across the plastic intby Petee_C - Main Forum
Thanks, 3 of the shops would fix the dents, the one shop put a quote in for new door and rear quarter panel.... $8000cdn after tax. The other 3 shops were in the $2500-3000 cdn price range (after 13% sales tax).... I'm not sure if the door handle would be replaced or repaired, same with the vent... Neither is broken, but both have minor scrapes into the plastic.. I'm not sure if they wouldby Petee_C - Main Forum
We had a little mishap on the weekend, and my wife backed her q7 into my 2001 Black Boxster S. I was not a happy camper, anyways she did bring it to 4-5 different local body shops to get estimates done on the repair on Monday.... We will likely be putting it as a claim on her insurance... She's been with the same company for over 15yrs and never did an at fault claim.... The driver side dooby Petee_C - Main Forum
Brake sensor circuit becomes open, not shorted on vag products, rotor wears through the circuit.by Petee_C - Main Forum
Insomnia plus jet lag. Late to the party, but I have abt pads on both axles of a 5700+lb q7 tdi and at least the rear axle of my jetta tdi. I'm not 100% sold on them on the q7. Definitely less brake dust than oem, but lacking in initial bite. Had the pucker factor a couple times. Also don't like them on that vehicle in the wet. My wife doesn't complain about the brake performance. The dust fby Petee_C - Main Forum
I wonder what the 718/718s will be like in the hands of a tuner. Having owned and driven an APR tuned 1.8t and now a Malone tdi, the gains once these computer geeks get from the programming boost on a turbo is double thumbs up. Peterby Petee_C - Main Forum
Someone buy a triple black 718,I'll be ready for one on the used market in about 7yrs. Stick please. Hope wage cdn dollar will be better then.by Petee_C - Main Forum
Put road insurance on mine, sticker and pulled it out of the garage. Parked it in the sun for 15 Min's while letting the extra winter psi out of the tires. Let the engine idle for a few minutes to circulate the oil around, put the top down and took my son to tryouts in town. Drove wonderfully. Peter Heidelberg, Ontarioby Petee_C - Main Forum
Hi Grant, I'd love to see pics of your car on blocks. In 2011, I made the plunge and bought a MaxJax midrise lift... was fairly easy to install, I had a bit of help with the concrete work. It's great. I sit on a rolling stool and can wheel around underneath the vehicle. I can get the bottom of the car (where the lift points are about 48-54" in the air, depending on which lift padsby Petee_C - Main Forum
It would be awesome for the trip down to Florida for March Break with the family in the family hauler..... Leave late in the evening when traffic is light... get on the interstate after crossing the border at I75 after Detroit... set the cruise and nod off and wake up when it's light 6-8hrs later and pull over for a pee break and fill up..... Would make the trek down from home to Florida muchby Petee_C - Main Forum
Got it all buttoned back up, including replacing the sparkplug tube on the middle passenger side cylinder. Used a tiny bit of moen (yeah the plumbing company) silicone grease that I bought at home Depot to lube the new o-rings. Only enough grease was put on to give them a little bit of shine. 6 grams worth for $7. Took it for a, test drive, and psychologically the car always feels so much bettby Petee_C - Main Forum
jlegelis, I actually did collect midstream oil for analysis. I will do the TBN as well, as this oil was not used for many miles, but was very old in Porsche circles..... I'll try to remember to post on here for comparison to yours. I used Castrol Syntec in my car as it's frequently onsale locally, Guenther, Dave - Alcantara, and a local mechanic who took Raby's m96 course suggested I checby Petee_C - Main Forum
I dropped the oilpan/oil pan last night after draining the old ( maybe 24! month old) oil from my Boxster S. Nothing, notta, zilch. No particles at all. Do I inspect the inside of the filter for bits? The outside of the filter looks clean at 1st glance of the pleated media. My car has 119K km (72K miles on it), Got a nagging little drip from the passenger side cylinder bank. I'm guessingby Petee_C - Main Forum
Eric, I have the maxjax lift you linked to at Costco. I got mine from Costco in Canada. Works great. I use a roller stool to work with it. To get the max height with it, I drive the Boxster up on a 4 squares of plywood. Otherwise, there is enough ground clearance to use the lower set of lift pads. I've had the maxjax for 3-4 yrs.by Petee_C - Main Forum
apparently some people are making electric boxsters..... would that be of interest as a project? Peterby Petee_C - Main Forum
the LN kit is around $600US. I have not decided what exactly I will do with respect to the IMS bearing. I'm doing a bunch of reading on the interwebs, and there's bunch of info floating around. No one publishes test info, and the test info is n=1 for some of the enthusiasts. I can't find statistically significant info on IMS fixes. There is a lot of part info to digest. Sure, I'll post here and on the Rennlist forum once I get things in motion. Do you check here regularly? I may start as early as a week from now, or may delay it few weeks until I can get my tranny jack from my Florida vacationing inlaws. The DOF flange sounds interesting, and I understand the arguments for it. However, the price point is a little high right now considering the value of thby Petee_C - Main Forum
What's the exit path back to the oil sump?by Petee_C - Main Forum
I'll take a closer look at it when I get the new OEM one in..... Peterby Petee_C - Main Forum
My car is a 2001 S, 6 speed with between 65-70,000 miles on it. Original clutch and IMS bearing as far as I know. I am in the process of gearing up and psyching myself up for a DIY IMS replacement. I will likely go for the LN retrofit. My local mechanic has taken the M96 engine course by Jake Raby, and he's been trying to get me to drop my sump to look for bits. I did some research on the inby Petee_C - Main Forum
Thanks for the reminder. I've got a new upgraded OEM mount sitting in the cupboard in my garage. I've got about 65-70,000miles on my '01S. I put in a Pedro Enthusiast mount the 1st year I had the car around August 2009 (45,000miles). I've decided I don't like the vibration it causes. I'm thinking about trying to press in a new rubber core in my pedro mount to have as a spare. I've cut outby Petee_C - Main Forum
QuoteGuenter in Ontario I'll be interested in it in 6yrs or so,.... When you're ready to upgrade, and it will be in my price range..... I hope you explore the red line soon, say when you're almost done the 1st tank of gas........ Congratulations, Peterby Petee_C - Main Forum
Grant, When I used to track motorcycles, it was standard procedure to safety wire a lot of "critical fasteners" on race bikes. My track bike was an old beater that I picked up for cheap, and other than the oil drain plug, I didn't safety wire anything. If you track your boxster a lot, you could put a dab of silicone on the bolt and cv joint as a precaution. The holding power wouldn't be a holby Petee_C - Main Forum
OK, With Bar10dah's help, I've got the hazard relay out, and I've got the +ve on the buzzer to the switched +ve of the relay, and ground to ground. I get a faint buzz even with the turns off. Buzzer works great with the signals on. How do I get rid of the little bit of leakage coming out of the relay when off? Thanks, Peterby Petee_C - Main Forum
Thanks. That's helpful. I will also look into the extra loud turn signal relay. Didn't realize right away that the hazard relay (that's what it's called in Bentleys) is the relay that also does the turn signals. I can jam the small leads into the present relay and try it out.
