A few years back, I got one on ebay. Came with instructions. Wasn't too hard to replace. Might have been 2010 when I replaced mine. My original lcd display had cracked internally. Peterby Petee_C - Main Forum
After driving straight for about 10 minutes and 10 miles with my turn signal on, I'd like to add a 12v piezo buzzer to my turn signal so that I get the idiot warning that it is on. Can someone help me out with the electrical diagrams in Bentley's? I think I need a degree in electrical engineering to figure this one out. I'm trying to figure out, if..... - I can hook it up to the hazard relay?by Petee_C - Main Forum
I have been doing some upgrading of the sound system on my 2001 boxster s. So far I've got Kenwood kdc bt855u head unit with bluetooth, 2 Usb ports, siriusxm capabilities Stock amp Sound Ordnance B 8PTD powered sub in the passenger footwell. I've got a pair of kicker 4" speakers to go in the dash. I'm going to visit the local porsche used parts dealer and look for a blown dash speaker cannibaby Petee_C - Main Forum
Great story. Thx for the link Pby Petee_C - Main Forum
danz, What gauge wiring did you use for the power and ground for your sub..... I see a lot of 8 gauge kits.... Seems to be a little bit of overkill, especially for the short distances. Did you go right to the battery for the positive lead? I was thinking about using maybe 12gauge stranded copper wire, looking for red and black at maybe homedepot. I have everything else I need. thanks, Pby Petee_C - Main Forum
Pretty much plug and play. Crutchfield is really good at supplying the harnesses that you would need. Don't have to muck up any wiring. Only thing you need to do is unplug the alarm wire for the original head unit. Lots of tips on the Internet.by Petee_C - Main Forum
I've upgraded the HU on my Boxster to a Kenwood KDC-BT855U. I'm learning the features (it has features, unlike the CDR 220 it replaced). I'm liking it so far. I have a pair of Kicker 4" coaxials to put in the dash as soon as the wiring harness comes in, and I get the nerve to butcher the stock speakers to attach the aftermarkets to the grill. I'm wondering about a small powered sub. In Canadby Petee_C - Main Forum
I've been running these for the past 25,000miles or so.... Fronts still loads of tread. Been through 2 sets of rears... I had alignment issues causing some scrubbing I believe. (I think the Toe was way off) Happy with them. Don't know how good the ride is... this is my 1st car with 35 series tires. Did one dry track day with them. No issues for my level of driving.... Hey folks, I ordered the KDC-BT855U stereo deck from Crutchfield dot ca on Tuesday, came by UPS on Thursday. We live in a quiet rural neighborhood, so the driver just left the packages in a clear plastic bag on our porch. I've got the stereo almost installed. It wasn't too bad. About 1.5 hours worth of work, plus another 1 hr of troubleshooting. Here are my tips. 1. Becker head unit. Iby Petee_C - Main Forum
Hey Grant, Would it make a noticeable difference at modest listening volumes to have a HU with 4v preouts vs 2.5vpre outs? Considering two Kenwood products. KDC-BT855U for $229 from crutchfield dot ca with harnesses included(?) vs a KDC-x597 locally for $189 plus about $51 for the harnesses. Peterby Petee_C - Main Forum
pretty much. You need to remove the Sway bar links to get a bit more room to push the hub out, but those are easy with standard wrenches. There were flats on the ball end of the link to get a wrench on it. It was a couple years ago....I used a pointy tip on my air chisel and put it in the hole on the outboard end of the axle after removing the nut, and vibrated it out to get it going. Quotegrant What are you suggesting? Grant Sorry for the cryptic response.... my phone has to relearn my vocabulary for the autocorrect (Swiftkey on Samsung GS3). Anyways.... This is how I did it for the passenger side.... Instead of removing the balljoint, I removed the other end of that arm. This is the tip that Dave (Alcantera on P suggested. I reused the axle nut. I believe I called the pcar dealer and they weren't in stock. Peterby Petee_C - Main Forum
From what I remember, but don't think there is room. Are you do for an alignment? I undid the concentric thingermabob on the other end of the arts get the axle out.by Petee_C - Main Forum
I'm replacing the headunit, because I want to. It's by no means a need. The Becker CDR220 still functions, although the display sometimes goes dim. I have an aux plug in the back for my iPod or phone. I listen to music/FM radio about 30% of the time (mainly because I only have 1 album on my 'new' phone, and 1 CD in the car), and about 70% of the time, I listen to internet talk shows / podcastby Petee_C - Main Forum
I take it that the box circled in red is the amp in the "frunk" of my Porsche. I have dash speakers and door mounted speakers. I am looking to upgrade to the 21st century with Bluetooth, android phone compatibility and possibly future Sirius XM. Do you recommend I try to bypass this when I do a stereo install, and remove this amp and put a mid-level aftermarket one in its place? I currentlyby Petee_C - Main Forum
QuoteGuenter in Ontario QuoteGary in SoFL 1) 20" wheels are a waste of your $, especially with the very attractive 19" Boxster S wheels, and the way you travel, replacement Michelin tires will be better and cheaper. The 20" wheels might be a waste according to your taste. For my money, they're worth every penny. To my eye, spokes should get narrower toward the outside of the wheel. Should I run an aftermarket Head Unit in my 986s? I already put the AUX cable in to plug my phone/ipod into it for tunes. Recently I've been listening to sports talk shows on my commute via internet radio (I live and commute in the hicks). I was thinking something with bluetooth integration might be nice. Anyone miss their stock CDR 220? My stock HU, is sometimes having problems with the scrby Petee_C - Main Forum
That there is no "door ajar" light on the dashboard of a 2001 986s? I asked my wife to take the Boxster to work on the weekend (50mile round trip), because the daily driver (Jetta) was going up on my lift for the beginning of a rear suspension bushing R/R. I needed her Q7 TDI to fit both kids. Being a good husband, I made sure there was a nice pink baseball cap in the car for her to use, andby Petee_C - Main Forum
Not a Porsche recommended procedure, but has anyone done this? My indy mechanic recommends me do this at my next DIY oil change, and take pics of anything suspicious looking. Is Ultra Black RTV Gasket Silicon better than blue? FWIW, I have a 2001 S with 63,000miles on the clock. Peterby Petee_C - Main Forum
Finally got the intake all cleaned up and put back together last night from my AOS repair. Installed a new airfilter as well. I'll probably take a look at my MAF (1yr old) tonight before I put the engine covers back on. I might spray it with intake cleaner if it looks oily. Given the amount of white smoke I had, and the puddles of oil I found in the intake T and crossover tubes. Would itby Petee_C - Main Forum
I agree with Kevin. Life's better if you don't sweat the small stuff. Go for a really fast rip in your Boxster. You'll feel better. Peterby Petee_C - Main Forum
Wow! AOS replacement on a 12 yr old Boxster S is an exercise in patience. As a DIY, be prepared to spend at least 3hrs in the garage. It took me nearly 10 minutes and a lot of persuasion to get the clam shell in service position, before even removing any of the throttle body assembly or intake T's. Because it was fairly cool, I raised the top to service position in multiple stages, making suby Petee_C - Main Forum
How does your friend secure the sti to the dash? My friend uses one of those sticky pads to set cell phones on and stuff, but sometimes he says it goes flying. Peterby Petee_C - Main Forum
QuoteRoger987 Interesting reading. My 'friend's' V1 was current (as of 3 years ago) when it got picked up by Canadian police. I know a similiar 'friend', however he sold his V1 on eBay about 5 yrs ago when the 'new' spectre RDD came out. My 'friend' also changed to a Bel STi, and has been happy with it. He also just told me he misses the bogey counters and arrows. Of note, he also just toldby Petee_C - Main Forum
Yeah, my boxster is a 2001, so I guess the waterpump doesn't owe me anything with 60+K miles on it. Thanks for the feedback, Peterby Petee_C - Main Forum
Travelling back 'home' next week to the USA from the Great White North. I'm ordering some parts from the land of cheap online retailers to bring back with me duty free. Contemplating a waterpump from Autohaus AZ for $210ish. In Canada they look to be about $350. What's the consensus. replace a waterpump pre-emptively with the Sbelt? Peterby Petee_C - Main Forum
ok thx. Looking at getting the Harbor Freight 12ton press for my garage if I can get the appropriate coupon. Maybe I'll get the 987 full mount, and keep/sell the Pedro Enthusiast mount. Peterby Petee_C - Main Forum
Hey Pedro, Is it possible? I've got a enthusiast technomount from about 4yrs ago (maybe fall 2009?) I'm thinking about trying to press in 98737502305 (bushing only) into my technomount to get rid of some of the 3000rpm vibrations. Thanks, Peterby Petee_C - Main Forum
