Folks thanks for being so helpful here - it's really nice that this community exists. The video showing how to access the engine, I hadn't seen and looks helpful so I'll be checking this out soon. Is it 100% safe to use that Techron Fuel System Cleaner? Common sense tells me it is. Just w/ this brand of car, I know it has to be cared for precisely or you end up in a world of hurt at the dealeby bb1 - Main Forum
Thanks mikefocke I haven't tried to "clear" the code as a total newbie to this. I take what you said as sound - checking things are snug, etc. If anyone has a good video showing how to get to the engine compartment on the Boxster please share. I have experimented w/ that a few times but always got to a point where I couldn't "pry" some part of that cover/top away (fearing I would break sometby bb1 - Main Forum
Thanks for the feedback Boxsterra. (There's been no work of any kind on the air intake on this car, except maybe an air filter replacement once years back. The oil cap was/is on fine/secure.)by bb1 - Main Forum
Hi folks - I have a 2000 Boxster w/ about 75k miles on it. Not much has been fixed/replaced in terms of the motor in all that time. The AOS was replaced about a 1.5 yrs back - that's it. The CEL light came on and has stayed on. The car is running normally - no issues now. I purchased an OBD2 code reader (Ancel AD310). The code it showed is"P1126" (might have read "P1126 $11" if that meansby bb1 - Main Forum
This relates to 986 Boxster (or similar 911's) - has anyone come across a cupholder you can order for it - preferably one that you is designed to swap out the ash tray (or coin tray whatever it is) in the center console area by the parking brake handle? This seems like a good location in this car to have one and you can pop out that try easily enough - so wondering if any 3rd party sellers haveby bb1 - Main Forum
Anyone have tips on how to remove a CD from the CD player in a 1st gen Boxster w/ the stock (Becker) radio? The unit just makes a bunch of noise trying but doesn't eject the CD. Thanksby bb1 - Main Forum
thanks Naples986 - when you say they are too bright - you're talking about the rear lights right? and the rear fog section (i guess this is the light that comes on in the rear when you pull the light switch out the 2 levels? the one essentially not used by most folks) at that is what you are talking about? (after re-wiring it to serve as part of a daytime running lights?) i wouldn't be rewirinby bb1 - Main Forum
Hey folks - are there any easy (i.e. a kit) ways to configure the newer looking LED brake lights on an older Boxster? I know about the HID lights as that's fairly doable if you want to pay for them, but I haven't ever seen anything like this for sale - yet being as how many older cars out there that folks might like this feature, it would seem someone would be selling them? Thanksby bb1 - Main Forum
Hi folks - have noticed that the horn on my 2000 Boxster - the button engagement is become very sensitive. So much so that the slightest touch of the top left of the airbag area, activates the horn - so I have to be real careful not to rest my hands on the inside of the wheel anywhere. I saw some other recent posts on this forum about the horn honking when braking - mine hasn't done that yet.by bb1 - Main Forum
From an ignition POV it seems to be running fine now tooby bb1 - Main Forum
Hi Folks - 1 more issue I'm deliberating on my 2000 Boxster w/ 75k miles. For some time some oil has been seen around the bottom of the engine near spark plugs. The plugs nor anything around there has ever been replaced. I am thinking about getting new plugs and tubes done. 1) How important would it be to replace the coils @ same time - I know that will add considerably to the total $ - soby bb1 - Main Forum
Hi folks - thanks for replying w/ that information. Coolant and oil levels are normal and no evidence they are dropping. So I will certainly work to get the AOS fixed based on what I have heard.by bb1 - Main Forum
Forgot to mention - as for visual inspection of any leaking fluids. Very small amount of oil perhaps showing on the garage floor under the engine. Just enough to discolor but not pooling up or anything. Yes I can see some oil grimeage on the sides of the bottom part of the engine if I peer in just in front of the rear wheel (this is nothing new though so doubtful it's related - just will mentiby bb1 - Main Forum
Hi Folks - 2000 Boxster - 74k miles - usually goes ~1 wk between being driven. The last few times I have done the cold start I have noticed a lot of smoke coming out the back. (over past few yrs I would say it's normall to see a little bit - but I'm talking more than that, and definitely seems to be getting worse over last 3-4 times). Driving-wise seems to be pretty much normal. I scoured thiby bb1 - Main Forum
Well I would agree they should be pretty darn close. The website let's you punch in your current vehicle and if you put in a model year before 2005 they don't have a mat to sell.by bb1 - Main Forum
Hi folks - for older boxsters <2005 - I have one and was looking for some replacement rubber mats on weathertech.com site ---- They don't carry any for <2005. Does anyone know if the 2005 model mats would fit fine on the older Boxsters? I assume it's got to be close, just also figured some folks who follow this board would know for sure. Thanks in advanceby bb1 - Main Forum
Hello folks - I have a 2.7L 986 Boxster and considering an exhaust upgrade, just to improve the sound (and hopefully not take away any HP at least). Surely, surely there must be some folks on this board who have gone through w/ similar project and can share info (what product, where to buy, were you satisfied w/ the sound, etc) Thanksby bb1 - Main Forum
Thanks. Yeah mainly I opened this post just about the extra friction when spinning the wheels. As to the noises I'd been hearing in the car - yes, I have had a shop check, w/ me standing around trying to help, and they weren't able to find anything loose or that made the kind of sound that can be hear (when banging/jiggling around on stuff under the car). It's frustrating, especially when Iby bb1 - Main Forum
Hey folks - have an '00 Boxster, 5 speed. I have had some noises coming from somewhere in the back (just coasting thru a parking lot w/o in gear can hear it if just have modest bumps in road surface). Anyway, today I thought I would jack up the car (I only have the jack that came w/ the car - so 1 rear wheel @ a time is all I can do). My plan was to get the tire off ground and then basically sby bb1 - Main Forum
Thanks for the information. I will keep it in mind. I tried to check it w/ the car on the ground and at least there, it felt really solid. And can't see anything loose in the brake pads that could make noise like I'm hearing. Chassis ears I can ask about the next time I go back to the shop but no idea if they have them (I am just learning about that and from googling it - looks like somethingby bb1 - Main Forum
Hi folks - spent several hrs @ an independant mechanic shop the other day. I had noises from the front and rear of the car. The FRONT I covered in another post. But now I wanted to ask a question about the noise from the REAR. When driving/coasting at any imperfect pavement (like an open walmart parking lot) - at speeds as lows as a few MPH..... it is really easy to hear all kinds of CLUNKIby bb1 - Main Forum
Thanks Harvey - that's handy to have. I'm going to post about a related problem separately.by bb1 - Main Forum
Hi Pedro - the 'drop links' and 'ball joints' you mention - assume you are talking about different parts than the inner tie rods? Is there any resource online you know of that shows all these parts and where they would be in relation to these inner tie rods (those I saw) Thanksby bb1 - Main Forum
Hi folks - has anyone had experience changing/replacing the inner tie rods in the front of the car? A mechanic has advised this is worn and causing a lot of the clunking noise I can hear almost all the time when the car is in motion. With the car on a lift that lifts from the wheels......and by having someone push up/down on the front of the car while it's on this lift, we could hear noise andby bb1 - Main Forum
Hi folks - was checking but didn't find it - also on youtube - looking for anything related to replacing control arms, track rods, etc If you are aware of any links please advise. Thanksby bb1 - Main Forum
dumb question maybe - but even with a dead battery I am not sure why I couldn't access the stuff in the front boot? maybe you have a newer Boxster w/ an electronic switch? as far as I can tell mine is just a cable-type switchby bb1 - Main Forum
good suggestion.....lots of procedures to remember when owning these carsby bb1 - Main Forum
Folks - thanks for the many replies here. While it's not good for you, it is nice to know that others have gone through the same predicament.by bb1 - Main Forum
Hello folks - I need to get my Boxster towed into the shop (water pump failure). I have a question about the towing procedure. The tow truck will be a flat bed type. But I'm not clear if they can safely load the car from the back of the Boxster, or if the Boxster's front needs to be facing the wrecker (car is in a garage @ the end of a narrow driveway --- so unclear if I'll have to somehow getby bb1 - Main Forum
