If you are lucky, it could be as simple as coming from the drain plug. When I bought my Boxster (used), the dealer had serviced the fluids. I soon found a very small oil spot under the car and, having read the posts on the PPBB, figured I had the dreaded RMS issue. Upon close inspection, I found oil dampness around the oil drain plug. a dealer will only change the electrical switch along with the steering wheel lock. I too had bought the Audi switch in case I needed to do the job myself as you did. However while at a dealer for oil and brake fluid change, the ignition switch acted up and needed replaced. I had the Audi ignition switch with me and figured I'd just go ahead and pay the labor charge for them to put it in. Thaby p-wagen - Main Forum
Neil, my experience soon after I bought my Boxster is not totally the same as yours, in that it didn't involve a change in the ignition switch, but here is what happened: I had only had the car a few weeks. Upon exiting the car one day, I moved the steering wheel after shutting the car down and removing the key. In doing so the steering lock engaged with tension on the locking mechanism. IF a person wanted to go with an All Season tire, does anyone have comments good or bad about the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus?by p-wagen - Main Forum
Pedro, I don't understand your math. You stated that with the hard top and low mileage the price would be $16,900. They are asking $19,900....$3,000 higher, not "$10,000 too high." What am I missing here?by p-wagen - Main Forum
Thank you all for your inputs. There seems to be agreement that a 17 inch rear wheel with tire will not fit in the front trunk of a '98 Boxster, leaving the choices to either the rear trunk with bungee cords to hold the lid down, or the passenger seat.by p-wagen - Main Forum
Will a rear wheel fit in the front trunk of a '98 Boxster after the emergency spare is removed? I had heard that it won't. If not, I guess it would fit on the passenger seat. But if you had a passenger, I would think they would not be too happy to be left on the side of the road.by p-wagen - Main Forum
What is needed to remove the driver's seat on a '98 Boxster? Is it the four "six pointed" bolts holding the tracks to the floor? If so, what kind and size socket does it take? Also, is there a specific torque setting for the bolts when re-installed? I think I remember from an earlier post that the battery need not be disconnected when disconnecting the wiring under the seat and also to not haby p-wagen - Main Forum
When removing the seat and disconnecting the wiring (with key not in the ignition), is it necessary to disconnect the battery?by p-wagen - Main Forum

Any recommendations on a good reliable tire gauge? The two gauges I currently have are the older "ruler type" and have quite a disparity between them.by p-wagen - Main Forum
I recently checked my speedometer (1998 Boxster with correct size tires on factory 17" wheels) against my new Garmin GPS. When the Garmin reads 70mph my speedometer reads 73-74mph. Assuming the Garmin is the more accurate, is this speedometer error common with the Boxster?by p-wagen - Main Forum
Mario, this may be a long shot, but look at the data sticker on the underside of the front hood. Dealer mechanics sometimes write the radio code on the sticker so they don't have to deal with looking it up on future occasions. I found that to be the case when I bought my Boxster used. Bought the car five years ago when it had 2316 miles on it, an average of 290 miles a year! I have averaged about 1540 miles a year, so more than the original owner. It is a hobby car for me when the weather is nice.by p-wagen - Main Forum
