I'm convinced that light use, and low RPM use is in fact a contributor. grant - Tuesday, 2 July, 2013, at 6:26:22 pm |

Love your Boxster.... great, so did I, but don't belittle and personally attack me because I dare to mention my experience. WRONG, again

981 always goes to exactly 200 water, and mostly to about 225-35 oil any season. *NM* Laz - Friday, 5 July, 2013, at 11:48:07 am |
Interesting. My 987 normally sits at just above 80 C = about 180 F once at operating temperature Guenter in Ontario - Friday, 5 July, 2013, at 2:17:49 pm |
My former 986 was about 185. Likely 981's thermostat and the coolant/oil heat exchange parameters. *NM* Laz - Friday, 5 July, 2013, at 2:43:41 pm |
My limited info is the new sports cars have 3 cooling circuits in the car's cooling system.... MarcW - Saturday, 6 July, 2013, at 12:01:12 pm |
Interesting, Marc. The wassermotoren have some sort of oil/water heat back & forth programming, too. *NM* Laz - Saturday, 6 July, 2013, at 12:43:54 pm |

"When bearing seals degrade, small amounts of oil enter the bearing and mix with the bearing grease. When this happens, the oil-grease mixture loses the ability to lubricate adequately and the bearings fail from friction."
--> well..... the oil basically washes the grease away. If there were enough oil (even mixed with grease) there all the time it might work. I've see very little grease at all in them (not that I've personally seen all that many)

Not really true about why RMS seals fail.. patrick - Wednesday, 10 July, 2013, at 4:39:50 pm |
They're talking about IMS (intermediate shaft), not RMS (rear main seal) *NM* Pedro (Odessa, FL) - Thursday, 11 July, 2013, at 9:55:14 am |
