My understanding of the economics of warranties is that the manufacturer of a part does the proper diligence to minimize the likelihood of their part failing. They do some sort of analysis to determine the expected loss based on claims, and they build that into the price. Sometimes they purchase insurance to cover claims against them, in which case they can negotiate a low rate with the insurancby Boxsterra - Main Forum

If it drops 1/4" then the problem is the microswitch in the door. If it drops 1/4 of the way down, the problem is one of the two microswitches in the middle of the windshield frame. The microswitch in the door is located just inside of the outside door handle but you can only access it by removing the door panel trim. The microswitches in the middle of the windshield frame are directly accessiblby Boxsterra - Main Forum
I am eagerly awaiting a real review. TireRack says that it's going to be one of the first tires they test this summer. There are scattered other reports but nothing solid. I'd love to hear your experiences with these tires on a Boxster (or any other car, really).by Boxsterra - Main Forum
Fuel consumption is high in the first few miles but once it's out of Earth's atmosphere, it can go an arbitrary distance at 6k+ mph using minimal fuel.by Boxsterra - Main Forum
I use the Blackberry Remote Stereo Bluetooth Gateway. It allows me to listen to music (in high-quality stereo), make phone calls, listen to Nav, all through the car stereo. So far it has been seamless. It's nice to have the music automatically mute when the Nav speaks or when I get a phone call. The unit is small and I put it behind the radio so it is completely invisible. I hard-wired it in toby Boxsterra - Main Forum
Are you sure they're looking on the correct side? It should be the left side of the car (driver's side in the US). It is unlikely that the cat is bad. But if it is, there is a separate 10-year warranty on that part and the dealer might replace it for free. I wouldn't just replace the O2 sensor. I would swap the front and rear sensors (they are the same part) and see if the problem goes away.by Boxsterra - Main Forum
The first set (primary cat) is built into the headers, which are cracked on your car. The headers are sometimes incorrectly referred to as the exhaust manifold. You need a replacement exhaust header, like the one in the eBay link you provided. The second pic you provided are of secondary cats, which are expensive and do not need to be replaced on your car.by Boxsterra - Main Forum
was that he was probably driving like a jackass. I feel bad for his friends and family but people who take big risks often see their demise as a result so this is not a huge surprise.by Boxsterra - Main Forum
On your car, the headers have a pre-cat built into them. There is a separate secondary cat. I can see how this could get confusing. IMO, it is much more likely that the cracks would be on the headers/pre-cats. Parts cost-wise headers are generally much cheaper than cats. It sounds from your description like the problem is on the header. Labor to replace the header (or remove it for welding) theoby Boxsterra - Main Forum
The cheapest thing to do should be to weld it. The $400 cats are likely fine but welding shouldn't cost anywhere near that unless the cracks are extensive. If they are, I would definitely replace the cat. It's a little strange that neither of the mechanics inspected the cats while the car is running. Exhaust leaks are usually pretty evident as they produce a low pitched percussive sound, wind, sby Boxsterra - Main Forum
Cats are impervious to oxygen. What are the codes?by Boxsterra - Main Forum
Why not just weld the cracks?by Boxsterra - Main Forum
It's not too often you see someone tossing a Panamera. Looks like it was a blast.by Boxsterra - Main Forum
he was pumping the gas while the car was running.by Boxsterra - Main Forum
The increased noise is caused by a weight shift onto the outside bearing. I would check the heat shield that's directly behind the rotor to see if it is loose or rubbing.by Boxsterra - Main Forum
Retail cost on the part is $198 (though, as pointed out above you can get it for much less than retail) and it really is only a few minutes to change. Here is the procedure: -Remove right rear wheel -Unclip sensor electrical connector -Undo M6 screw -Remove old sensor -Put in new sensor -Tighten screw to 7.5 ft. lbs. -Push electrical connector back together until it clicks -Reinstall right wheelby Boxsterra - Main Forum
Check the crank position sensor wire to make sure it is properly plugged in. Have you had any work done in that area lately? It is very easy to replace if the sensor itself has gotten damaged.by Boxsterra - Main Forum
If you don't already have one, go to your local auto parts store and they will read the code for free. Speculating as to the cause here is a waste of time when the answer lies in the code.by Boxsterra - Main Forum

The next step is to get rid of the fuel. I hear from a reliable source that the e-Boxster is a go.by Boxsterra - Main Forum
Now, that I have to disagree with. The repair costs of an 84 Alfa Spider as a percentage of car cost far exceed that of the Boxster in pretty much every case.by Boxsterra - Main Forum
Hopefully we'll get more of Claro and Jeff next time.by Boxsterra - Main Forum
I've seen bent clips on ignition coils causing them to not snap into place properly. Or it could be a real wiring problem. The latter can sometimes be diagnosed by measuring continuity for each of the wires from end-to-end while wiggling the wires. Also check for shorts to ground/B+. I find that these types of problems are much more often something external to the engine than internal.by Boxsterra - Main Forum
but if you don't insist on it, you might not get it. All you have to do is ask and the insurance adjuster should cave in. Any body shop that doesn't do this by default is losing money since they typically get a percentage of the retail cost and the OEM parts are almost always more expensive.by Boxsterra - Main Forum
