They ordered an evacuation of Ocean City, MD and stopped alcohol sales. Good move. As a former FL resident, I've seen and lived the damage they can do. Drinking water - check; batteries - check; tubs filled - check; ice - check; SUV full of gas - check; weeks worth of food - check; deck furniture, etc. (and everything not nailed down) inside - check; beer - check ... Just like the earthquake! I've already put in my FEMA application. Perhaps I can amend it.... All joking aside, stay safe everyone.by Dave In MD - Main Forum
I had an older Mustang Cobra in my run group at last weekend's DE event. I was told it wasn't a stock suspension but they were keeping up very well. I owned a 1979 Mustang fastback black on black in a past life and it was a fun and fast car to drive. Although, it was before "quality is job one" at Ford and had a few nagging issues. We need to try for another run before the end of crab seaby Dave In MD - Main Forum
My mechanic suggested running about a 1/4 quart low. His thought was to avoid an overfill from the heat expansion. Since it has the extended oil pan, that's still about 9 3/4 quarts I believe. Don't know if that's right, but since there weren't any problems this weekend I'll stick with it unless someone convinces me otherwise.by Dave In MD - Main Forum
QuoteDave In MD Ran into an issue at the track this weekend. Hard down hill braking into a hard left hander and back on the gas generated a nice cloud of oil smoke. For subsequent laps I reduced speed and throttle through the turn to stop it. From what I'm reading this could be caused by oil starvation and the solution is installing an accusump. The car is a 2003 2.7, I'm running R888 tires aby Dave In MD - Main Forum
correct. My comment was actually to the comment about 30 failures on another forum. There is nothing random in asking who has had an IMS failure on a public online forum nor is a 2 post comparison relevant to the sample subject population. I'm not a statistics guy, but in our auditing the sample size requirement is based on accounting principles and ceases to increase above a certain level (arby Dave In MD - Main Forum
As an auditor, the calculation of sample size to get a meaningful statistic is a well known equation. Based on population, sample size and sample method being discussed here, the numbers will have a 95% accuracy rate with a plus or minus range of about 6 points. Not an unreasonable variance and certainly not significant enough to invalidate the trend data. You should use an Internet search eby Dave In MD - Main Forum
For a dealer, $189 doesn't sound too bad. Jiffy Lube in my area won't touch a Porsche but I wouldn't let them even if they did. My indie charges $125 for an oil change including oil, filter and crush ring. Most of the time I do it myself and buy the parts via mail order and the oil at a local auto parts place. Probably saves me around $35 from that. Changing the oil in these cars is pretty eby Dave In MD - Main Forum
QuotePedro (Weston, FL) You have to determine if they are aluminum or ferrous. I would not recommend driving it until you determine. Happy Boxstering, Pedro So, did the same on my engine this past weekend and found a few. Haven't driven the car yet and thinking about what to do. They look more like aluminum but I haven't tested with a magnet yet. I'm assuming the ferrous is a potential bearinby Dave In MD - Main Forum
I've bought some good stuff there like a floor jack, car air compressor, work bench, and even a tire trailer which I thought were good values. But as others here and on other sites on the Interwebs will tell you, they have good stuff and not so good stuff. I always do a search for the item I want to buy and the words "review". There are even a couple of sites that have sections of reviews on sby Dave In MD - Main Forum
I'd love to have a 993. But I have to admit I love the Boxster for many reasons. But, considering it.by Dave In MD - Main Forum
Thanks guys!! Replaced AOS already and it didn't fix the problem. I'm looking at the motorsports version of the AOS but it's pricy. Of course, the best advice may be: slow down and be more smooth. I just have to decide if the quick way through turn 5 is worth the money! It doesn't happen at the other tracks I go to. Just want to avoid the catastrophic failure event if I was headed thatby Dave In MD - Main Forum

I have an 03 with 18s. I run 36 rear and 31 front. There are a lot a variables to tire pressure such as driving style, personal taste, and even tire brand and compound. I've found on my car that if I raise the fronts a couple of pounds it will take some of the understeer out of the car. I've experimented with pressures in AX and this seems to work the best for my likes and my car.by Dave In MD - Main Forum
Another of the North Mississippi blues players to record at Sun Records. Fantastic era - recorded in 1966. A search for sun records brings up some rather famous and not so famous names. Great stuff!by Dave In MD - Main Forum
10:00 at the Burger King parking lot in Elkton!by Dave In MD - Main Forum
Our usual crab trip would be to meet at the Burger King in Elkton, Maryland at 10:00 this Saturday. Travel down the back roads of the eastern shore to Rock Hall where we'll devour a mess of steamed Chesapeake blue crabs and a beer or few at Waterman's Crab House for lunch. Maybe spend a little time around the shops in beautiful downtown Rock Hall and have an ice cream to top it off. Mosey up tby Dave In MD - Main Forum
Not my experience at all. I found the indie I use on the recommendation of folks I knew through the local PCA region. He also does one of the tech sessions for the region each year. I've found him very friendly, always talks about options and gives his opinions and I've found his advice sound. As I've done upgrades for the track, he has been spot on and has never pushed the pricey options. Rby Dave In MD - Main Forum
Saw that news this morning too but hadn't seen the video. Interesting that they are targeting LMP1 instead of LMP2 where the Spyder was. Wonder where the Audi will wind up. There's an interview in this months Excellence magazine with Fred Schwab (former head of PCNA). He's not particularly kind to the bean counter. His position is basically that racing is important to Porsche as a way to proby Dave In MD - Main Forum

I had the same thought when I bought mine. Couldn't figure out a way either so I just did as the instructions said. Figured I could always find a used assembly from one of the dismantlers if I had to. That was a couple of years ago. Now that I have it I love it and I'd never go back!by Dave In MD - Main Forum

I'm out of town the weekend of 16th for a DE event. KTS mentioned getting one together when we were chatting at BRBS.by Dave In MD - Main Forum
My wife and I took our 03 with standard suspension on it last year from DC to Fl for the Sebring race in February. No problems. They use ramps to load the car into the rail cars but there was plenty of clearance. We got the Roomette which is great for comfortable seating but the beds are very small. With that and the constant motion and noise it was not the best sleep I've ever had but it bby Dave In MD - Main Forum
All I want is the guarantee that if I install it and the IMS fails without it detecting it, they pay for the new crate motor from Porsche. Of course with the legal and accounting guarantee of a trust account to pay for it. Else, I could just buy an extended warranty from US fidelis (they went bankrupt and their management was charged with fraud) and get the equivalent warm and fuzzy feeling.by Dave In MD - Main Forum
And I agree. I'd love to have the same shot at speed. Even tho the 12hr race was a lot of fun, I'd LOVE to do a DE on Sebring!! I was actually thinking of attending the 48 hours or some other PCA DE event in the spring. Nothing like escaping the northeast in February for a little Porsche trip to Florida!by Dave In MD - Main Forum
I believe that Sebring qualifies. Parade laps at last year's 12 hour race.by Dave In MD - Main Forum
Wow! Great shots and very professionally done presentation. Keep them coming.by Dave In MD - Main Forum
Mike Focke has a great battery page here: Including the brands carried by most of the places you mentioned. I used the Interstate from a local auto parts store. They're really pretty easy to change.by Dave In MD - Main Forum
