after 2 days of cleaning. Rejexed the wheels. Cleaned off the bugs, tar and track rubber marks. Washed and waxed. Cleaned the interior and treated the rubber and leather. Cleaned all the glass. Vacuumed the carpet and put new Lloyd mats in. Filled it up with gas. I'm so READY!by Dave In MD - Main Forum
and I also use it at the track. It's the one by Central Pneumatic and sells for $25. I bought it after the one I had gotten from the auto parts store blew 2 fuses. Tossed it in the trash and have had this one for a few years with no problems.by Dave In MD - Main Forum
Good review. Interesting that they didn't include the Sumitomo HTR Z3 but the Falken (which Tire Rack doesn't carry) scored well. Sumitomo makes the Falken brand and they score Sumis well on the Tire Rack site. I had Falkens before I put the Sumitomos on the car and couldn't find the size I needed so went with them. The Falkens had a slightly softer compound with almost the same tread designby Dave In MD - Main Forum
As Pedro says, everyone will have opinions. I just took a set of Sumitomo HTR Z3 off mine. I'd buy them again as I think they're good tires for the price and I got them from Tire Rack shipped to my indie (click on Tire Rack ad on this site). I currently have a set of Bridgestone RE050a compliments of a set of new wheels and tires that are take offs from a Cayman (I wanted the wheels). I actuaby Dave In MD - Main Forum

alignment and how you drive. Over the last couple of years, my alignment has been a track alignment and I've counted tire life mostly in track days. Now that I've gone to R compounds on track wheels, I'll be back to my usual street driving mileage which has never been more than about 12K miles on the fronts. Since I'm keeping the track alignment, my sense is it will be a bit less now. If I wby Dave In MD - Main Forum

Mike, sad to hear, but who knows what life will bring. You may find a great deal on another Porsche one day, just can't help yourself and come back to the fold. I'd like to echo others and ask you to consider sticking around on the board. You always brought a reasoned view of the world and your posts were a joy to read. You are family here. All the best! As someone who has been married for 32 years, I get it. I mentioned we have a car for long trips, well she drives the 2010 Acura RDX which is now our family travel car. The TL is my car.by Dave In MD - Main Forum
I'd voted $4k, replace the transmission. Did that on my 03 TL at about 130k miles. Now have 150K miles and still going over 80 on the New Jersey turnpike! The transmission was a rebuilt from these guys: It has a 3 year, 100k mile warranty. So far, so good. Not sure I'd take it cross country (we have a newer car for that), but I don't hesitate to take it to New York or to NOVA all the tiby Dave In MD - Main Forum
As old timer pointed out, TPC has a good reputation as does At Speed in Hanover. At Speed fixed a brake light switch for me at the track in Summit Point last year - no charge. Most of the DE drivers I know use either of them.by Dave In MD - Main Forum
While the car was under warranty I took it to the dealer for things covered by the warranty. I also had them do the last major service (IIRC 30k miles) and look for problems right before the warranty expired. Got a few things fixed for free including an RMS replacement. I use my indie for some routine things and for problems. Mostly I'll change brake pads, rotors, bleed brakes, air filters, oby Dave In MD - Main Forum
I've had a Discwasher for many years. Yes, I still use my turn table. A Dual 1229 with a Stanton 681 EEE cartridge played through my JBL studio monitors. Yea, I know... showing my age as they're right out of the mid-70s. There actually are still a few labels putting out vinyl.by Dave In MD - Main Forum
Of course not, the driving gloves make pushing the little buttons too difficult... One of the reasons I don't have my phone available is that I use it for timing on the track. I usually just leave it mounted in the car all the time. Droid 2 with TrackMaster software.by Dave In MD - Main Forum
Not me. Sunglasses are important to me. Polarized Ray Bans. Watches, not so much. About the only time I wear a watch is at DEs when I don't have my phone with me all the time. Cheapest Timex I could find.by Dave In MD - Main Forum
but I've learned to start changing lanes and then signal. Around MD and DC I occasionally get a horn beep (but they didn't get the chance to speed up). Around NY, I don't recall anybody ever beeping.... it's how they drive.by Dave In MD - Main Forum
Huge turn out of Porsches. There will be individuals selling stuff as well as commercial vendors. I found an OEM front bumper cover there last year that was brand new for $300 (normal dealer price is around $900). You never know what you're going to find, just depends on who brings what. and is subject to cracking due to age and heat. Just replaced my reservoir last month. It made a nice oil spot on the garage floor too. When the fluid gets low enough the power steering pump will start making a grinding sound when turning. If you continue to run it that way the pump will fail. Good luck!by Dave In MD - Main Forum
Gee, Pedro's looks familiar. Other key is just to my tool box on the track trailer.by Dave In MD - Main Forum
Not leo but Aquarius. The article says I buy blue SUVs. Have never bought a vehicle in blue and never an SUV. I am a cautious driver though. I only do 140 MPH on the track....by Dave In MD - Main Forum
and the new Lloyd mats came in today. Also have a new set of wheels and tires that I picked up over the winter. A couple of other items I'd still like to work on: 1) Since my new wheels show the lug bolts and the old ones were very bad looking and they're the original with autocross and track time I decided to spring for new ones. Any thoughts on painting the new ones to make them look bby Dave In MD - Main Forum
Went out to get some lunch with the top down. 2.5 mile round trip to the sub shop took an hour and 45 minutes. Shoulda had some Springsteen playing. Is the oil level down? If so, I'd take Pedro's bet as the AOS. Just replaced one on my 03 about a month ago. Not a hard job but a pain to get to. The 03 is a bit different from most of the DIY instructions in that it fits into the crankcase differently. Still got it done with the older instructions. Smoke gone. Even after 3 days at VIR.by Dave In MD - Main Forum
You didn't say if you wanted summer or all season. The tires I just took off came from Tire Rack - Sumitomo HTR Z III. I got good life from them and IMHO Sumitomo is a great tire for the money. The ones I just put on the car are also summer and were wheel and tire take offs from a Cayman. Bridgestone RE 050A. The ride and handle well but too early to tell how they will wear.by Dave In MD - Main Forum
First outing of spring. Three days at VIR. New trailer, new wheels and tires for the road, and new track tires. Life is good!by Dave In MD - Main Forum
