Active camber w/ hydraulic rams---my, my. Sounds like an interesting idea (and complicated); wonder what the range of adjustment might be? I like the idea of being able to set max. camber on the car by the touch of a button if you want to do some track work--rather than having a dealer setup some compromise setting so you don't prematurely wear the street tires--and then switch back for a typicaby MikenOH - Main Forum

Exactly, that will give you the info you need from other owners of cars like yours. Unfortunately, the 4X is a fairly new tire with no Porsche owner reviews and not many sporty car owners, making this a bit of a crap shoot. The 970 OTOH, has a lot of reviews some of which are from Boxster owners. What I did notice about both tires is that the sizes seemed to be a bit limited--for Boxsters anyway.by MikenOH - Main Forum
I'm probably going to with the BS 970 Pole Position tires in a month or so, based on test results and recommendations from TR (from a salesperson). Having said that, if you compare the test they did on the Kumho 4X and the 970 (not head to head,, but using the same track and 328i coupe), the Kumho tested out well in the slalom, dry braking and lap time compared to the 970. If you didn't want to do a used engine or the the factory crate for $17k(?), this might be an option: 3.6L with 300HP for $18K. I haven't emailed Jake for details on this particular motor, but would be interested to know if all this motor incorporates all the products he's developed (liner coating/forged rods and pistons/revised IMS/etc..) . Looks like he offers a 1 year warranty on these as wby MikenOH - Main Forum

See if you can get a report of all maintenance performed on the two cars and before you put money down on the one you like, get the over rev print out from the DME to see if the car has been abused. If you're buying the CPO car, the dealer should be able to provide a report showing over revs (ranges 1 through 6) and roughly a time frame (engine hours) as to when they happened. The 1-3 range oveby MikenOH - Main Forum
There is only a 35HP difference between the 2 cars, with the 08 base having the Variocam + setup. Unless you're putting your foot into it on a regular basis or looking to track it, I don't think you'll miss the additional HP in the S. The warranty issue--in my mind -- is a big deal; 3 years of a factory warranty vs. none? If it was my call, I'd go with the 08.by MikenOH - Main Forum
I saw this on the tube earlier in the week--a story about F1 racing in the 60's and early 70's-- illustrating how driver safety was viewed during those years on the circuit. I have to say, watching the video of the early races, the lack of any real concern for driver safety was absolutely shocking by today's standards. A show worth watching, but not for the squeamish.by MikenOH - Main Forum
According to the story, if Zuffenhausen can't handle the demand, the old Karman plant will handle to overflow. I thought this was a done deal all along--981 production going to that plant--but possibly with the VW deal currently up in the air, they'll only send production there is demand warrants it.by MikenOH - Main Forum

C&D did a road test on various tires a few years back and compared a bunch of tires to the PS2, including the Hankook V12 and Kumho XS. The Hankook came out of test with great all-around marks, as did the XS on the dry portion of the test. However, the XS was one of the lowest rated tires in the wet. I can attest to this on the track; very good dry traction and poor wet traction. They wouby MikenOH - Main Forum

QuoteKevinR-MedinaOhio Tomorrow I take possession of an '09S (my first Porsche) w/ 11500-miles. I've been a member of PPBB and now this board in anticipation of getting a Boxster, and the stars have finally aligned so that the purchase can be made. The car is getting a clear bra installed and I will begin Boxstering after work. I know I am going to have to train myself to take it easy on bad roby MikenOH - Main Forum
Looked like a piece of cake, right? We were over in Germany in 2000 also, on a Fast Lane Travel tour and were able to drive a 996 C4 for 3 days, mostly going north of Stuttgart. We were driving in a small convoy of 4 cars--the lead was a retired Porsche engineer--and while my wife was driving we got a bit too far behind to see the rest of the group, but still had them on the 2 way radios. QuoteMarcW engine IIRC was touted as having an 'integrated dry sump' which of course meant the oil tank was just a sump to which oil was routed and held in ready around the oil pump pickup tube. 'course, the 981 engine might actually get a real dry sump (like the Turbo/GT2/GT3 engines) in which case the engine should have an external oil tank. Sincerely, MarcW. Thanks for the reply, Marc. From the new brochure of the 981 apparently a dry sump will be incorporated, but it will be within the engine. Does anyone know where this dry sump will fit in the engine?by MikenOH - Main Forum
Glad it worked out. One thing that bothered me about their website was Pat Goss of Motorweek pushing this product as the best thing since sliced bread. Having watched him for years on the program, I've always thought he was a pretty straight shooter, but being linked as a frontman for an outfit like this won't due his reputation any good.by MikenOH - Main Forum
Quotepaulwdenton "Stand in a bar and still say you have a Porsche"--yup, that's exactly why most Boxster owners buy their cars. This is the public perception of people who own expensive cars in general, and based on my own observations, I think it is correct for the majority of Porsche owners. We have to recognize that the majority of Porsche owners are NOT enthusiasts, at least not in any realby MikenOH - Main Forum
First off, I'm amazed anyone would sell an extended warranty on a 8 year old Boxster with 85K on it; if you don't mind me asking --roughly--what was the premium and was there a big deductible? Glad to hear they actually paid on the claim, but it seems to underscore why there are so many skeptics out there with regards to the wisdom of buying an extended warranty. You paid the premium and then haby MikenOH - Main Forum
Regarding the author: 1) "Most unloved model"--I suspect she writes this based on sales numbers, but it strikes me more as an inappropriate metaphor of confusing passion with practicality. The SUV/Luxury sedan market is much larger that the 2 seater coupe/roadster and would expect the company sales numbers to reflect that--no? 2) Picking one 911 guy that doesn't care much about the Boxster as tby MikenOH - Main Forum
1) from the configurator,it looks like the mesh screen in the hoops is the only wind-blocker, there doesn't seem to be a clear piece if Lexan between the hoops--is that true? 2) You can't order heated seat separately, but have to get the package? 3) no storage panel below the roll bar? BTW, the video content on the configurator works very well--best of luck with the new car.by MikenOH - Main Forum
If you're not driving in weather with temps at or below freezing, the Kumho SPT should do just fine--inexpensive, decent dry/wet traction, cushy ride and quiet--at least for the first 10k in my experience. If you're driving in temps with go below 32deg. with some regularity, a UHP A/S might make more sense--in that class I read good things about the Bridgestone 970 pole position.by MikenOH - Main Forum

QuoteMarcW numbers. Small automakers, like Porsche, do not and thus Porsche needs to extract maximum fuel economy (at least during the EU and EPA fuel economy tests). Hence some models are goign to be PDK only. Porsche with the PDK (and before it the Tip), has a shift map that 'games' the EU/EPA fuel tests (to some extent). And Porsche is not alone in this.
