Swapped with no issues at all. No fabbing - nothing.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
That is great data. Glad to hear the issue is somewhat limited with respect to Porsche.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum

Many techs have them as well as DIY'ers. You are not far from CT - I know there are folks around here who have them. I saw them with my own eyes. Post on the various boards, you will get a connection.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
Hopefully, it will be corrected and all will be well.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
There is somewhat greater concern with that light. Clearly, you would know whether the belt is fastened or not, so you could visually ID that you were safe. The airbag light is different. There are a number of things that could set that off. For instance, I have heard that diving with the passenger seat disconnected for the car will trigger that code. Similarly, wiring problems can impact theby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
I note the OP mentioned an airbag warning light - NOT a seatbelt light. Are we certain the follow ups are dealing with the same issue as reported? Clearly, a seatbelt light could be triggered by scutch in the buckle. Does that translate to an airbag light? Those strike me as a different kettle of fish - and less margin for error. Just checking.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
But replacing the seat belt buckle does not sound like a huge project. That said, I am not sure how the buckle interacts with the airbag exactly. I know we have a "baby seat" bar in my car which deactivates the airbag. I still use it even though my kids are teens, because my youngest is relatively small and could still have an adverse impact. I might disconnect at some point though. In otherby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
You are correct that water can come around the windows even when up. But most goes behind the roll bars. I typically look for a good overpass to stop and put the roof up. There is usually one within about 5 miles or so. On a city or country road, I would likely raise the roof as early as convenient. I set up the "close roof without stopping hack" But I kept the ebrake interlock as a safety.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
It was around the price you are quoting, but there was a significant shipping fee. Perhaps as much as the top itself. I do not like the aftermarket glass tops, but the OEM has been great. It was an easy swap. If you are set on a plastic window, I recall someone took it to a boat fitter. They did the work in situ. No idea on cost or anything - it was quite some time ago.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
I would replace the sensor. If the light remains on, the fault is in the general loom. I would then do research on deleting the sensors. As I recall, many track pads do not accept sensors without alteration. So drivers worked around the sensors. Using the various work arounds, you may be able to isolate various potential failure points. Try several and see if you determine the point of failuby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
Always fun to just keep going with top down in rain. Confuses other drivers.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
Remove the battery AFTER placing a towel over the lock/latch mechanism. Have them check it. If over 5 years, expect to replace. I have the autozone brand in my cars and they have been fine. Get the gold or whatever the best version is. I think it goes to warranty, but... The cars do seem to burn through batteries in my experience. I assume because of downtime? But I cannot guess.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
Expensive for a little piece of plastic, but easy replacement.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
but looking at the autoatlanta parts diagram, it looks like the nozzle housing can be removed easily enough. I would take it out and soak it in an appropriate solvent overnight then flush with air and water. If that did not work, order a new one. Not worth messing with it more than that. just bought a pair for my BMW - like $15.00 total. The Porsche tax might make it more, but....by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
I would think the hardtop adds a lot of weight. I know that it makes the car feel top heavy - at least with respect to the 2 or 3 times I have driven one with the HT on. Then again, I i were racing, I might prefer steel above my head rather than canvas. Just wondering if it was your idea or not. Oh, and my Arena Red is in its 24th year as it would have been manufactured in summer/fall of 1999by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
If there are metal shards in the case and fluid, the parts are likely suspect, but I cannot say with any certainty if they are rebuildable. Perhaps put it on the web and see what comes? Or just get scrap weight.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
Amazon, Rockauto and local store. No single supplier had all three other than at triple the price. All had "limited supply" stated on the site. I wondered if that was correct or not, but there were certainly a lot that were out of stock. All are stated to be steel not plastic, but we will see. I did not go with OEM because the prices were sky high. Also did not go for URO, despite other's cby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
I have seen plastic versions. Specifically the URO brand on Rockauto. But if your experience is that URO is good enough, I am not going to sweat the brand too much. I will look at price and availability and make a call.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
Changed accessory belt over the weekend. One of the idler pulleys is on its way out. Bearing sounds a little like a roller skate. if one is going, the others must be following. I plan to change the two idler pulleys and the tensioner pulley. 2000, 2.7 Boxster. 87K miles. Questions: Are all three pulleys the same? I see different part numbers, but that might be the spacers or somethng?by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
They were indispensable doing the AOS. I wish the clamping area was a ltttle smaller - to get into tighter spots. However that would limit its utility on larger clamps.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
It is one thing to let them change oil if the car is in for something else. But to have them just do it, is going to be VERY expensive. I think they dealer once charged me $35.00 to change a light bulb. That was in 2004(?). The car was in for a warranty service and they discovered a bulb out. I just had them do it. But never again. Early on, in 2001(?), the dealer changed my oil for $474.00by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
But likely not a livable design for most. The roof is not weathertight. That alone makes it a no go for most people. Or at least those not living in the Southwest USA. I sincerely wish they would produce a vehicle with that engine in a livable form. That said, I am not sure i would buy it in any case. I have always enjoyed my 986. Pretty sure a new car would be a let down in most cases.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
The problem is that all used oil has contaminants in it. If you usually have multiple long drives including a long trip immediately before storage, many contaminants will have burnt off, but not all. That said, many people leave their cars for 6 months at a time without giving a thought to oil. Will there be more "damage" than you would otherwise have if you stored with new oil? Probably.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
Like listening to that neighbor, two doors down the road, blow dry her hair. Or maybe to the refrigerator running upstairs. road noise might be the equivalent of making ice cubes or something.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
Is there an agenda? Sure. Will that agenda fail once the facts come in? We will see. But Americans are not giving up individual transport unless something substantially better comes along.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
What car can you buy for $6K that you will enjoy anywhere near how much you enjoy the Boxster? If you cannot think of one, I submit the choice is straightforward. Were it me, I would fix the car. Period. How is the question. If you can find a reasonable replacement trans, that seems the logical choice. But weigh your options.by JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
And to be clear, I was suggesting that he swap a used Tip not rebuild it. the guy in Norwalk, who I have also used BTW, is the rebuilder. In any event, I just finished my last project car and I am thinking of a next project. Email me at jmorgan (at) pmpalawyer (dot) comby JM-Stamford,CT - Main Forum
