This is a clever commercial and fun to watch. OK OK, I get it, the new sound in this car is the warning of the coming of the Apocalypse and everyone would rather buy a Prius than put up with this aural travesty. But this is a television commercial, and one specifically aimed at those, like PPBoarders, who are convinced that this change is the worst thing to happen to cars in living memory, andby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
I think I'll just ask my mechanic about mold when he gets back. Asking questions at dealers has always gotten me into expensive trouble that has not solved any problems, at least since my extended service warranty expired.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
I think it's dopey too, but I'm not sure Porsche expects people who really like its cars to watch the ads. The only commercial I can recall from the past was an equally dumb one with Patrick Stewart with paint on his nose because Porsche was trying to promote its variety of colors. I think Porsches are bought by people who love them or aspire to them already and so,as is the case with Rolex, TVby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
I only have one key, which was made (covered by insurance) when I had the master control unit under the driver's seat replace because of flooding. Mold is possible, although the car has been dry (covered at night or inside) for weeks and since it's been blindingly hot here, I'm not sure the mold could survive. However, my point is that since the earlier keys' failure to work was fixed by replacby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
You know, the more I think about this, the less sense it makes. It was the key that failed, and then the replacement key worked. This sounds like a key problem, not something to do with mold or anything else on the car itself, otherwise, why would replacing the key fix the problem?by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
This is a somewhat dopey question I know, but please bear with me. My CEL light has been going on for several months. My mechanic, who I trust, reset it several times, and said it was not major, but finally it was driving me nuts and he went into the engine and replaced some air tubes and other exhaust-related components and the car drove find for about 500 miles. Then the light went on againby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Our other car, a BMW 3 got a bad ding over the weekend that I want to do somthing about before rusts sets in, but the place we've been going for years for this car and my 986 is closed until the end of the month. Can anyone recommend a reliable German car service place or body shop in the D.C. area that won't gouge us on prices? Thanks.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
I just made one of my rare trips to the local dealership for a repair and saw a guy getting tags on his brand new 718 Boxster. First off, I have to say the car looks great, really. His was in Steve McQueen grey, which I think I'd go for, with a black interior and it really looks like a quality sports car. I think the "Porsche" branding on the back is not quite as elegant as it might be, but siby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
I recently had my master control unit replaced because I'd flooded the original, but had to have a new key made, which I did at the local Porsche of Arlington. The first key failed, was unable to unlock the doors remotely, and was replaced, the second did the same thing after several weeks. The first time they said the first replacement key had a bad head, now they say if this happens again itby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum

for other manufacturers to make a really competitive product. BMW's Z5 could be a good candidate for those not blinded by a Porsche fetish, so could Alfa Romeo, if they could make a durable car. On the other hand, I haven't heard the new car, so I don't know.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
At first I liked this review because it stood out from all the cookie-cutter reviews of the 718 that all say exactly the same thing using the exact same once-clever but now hackneyed language (four pots, makes...horsepower, etc.), so much so that I wondered of Porsche handed out instructions saying give the car a good review but compare the sound to a Subaru so people won't realize you're in theby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
I think they're beautiful cars but I gather the service is, not surprisingly, less than one would want.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
I'm also in the D.C. area, so we may be seeing the same cars.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Me too. Enough about the sound already.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
I don't know if this is unique to my area, but has anyone else noticed an increase in Maseratis driving around? I've seen two or three sports models and a few sedans lately.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Rented an Impala on a family trip over the weekend. I'd wanted to do this for a while because it was redesigned this year. Assuming others on the board might also be interested, here are some quick thoughts. The car is comfortable and has the big-car feel I miss sometimes and that is fading with the demise of the Ford Crown Vic (not to mention Galaxy and Custom 500). I wonder whether if thisby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum

Some in the Washington, D.C., area may remember that about a dozen years ago Porsche of Arlington had a good reputation for service, which disappeared. I went in there today to have a keyhead replaced and was quite impressed with the service. Granted, this is a minor item and they were fixing something that came from them, but they were very professional and courteous about it, so I'm wonderingby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
No work after the kehy worked, the area is dry. The alarm does not sound, the flashers go on. The mechanic did nothing with the door.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
You mean the key? It's brand new -- or should be.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. I recently had the control unit below the driver's seat replaced because of flooding by my trusted indy mechanic, and a new key from the local (less-trusted) dealership. Everything works more or less ok except the key stopped working remotely to unlock the doors (at first it only would not remotely unlock the trunks). Now I have to unlock the door manby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum

And of course, when it broke down, they didn't take it to just any old coffee-machine mechanic, but the dealer.by JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
My point is not that all independents are necessarily better than all dealerships -- in fact the service department of Arlington Porsche here in D.C.years ago had a great reputation and I was a regular customer (although under covered repairs, so I didn't pay). My point is more that a good independent will give you your money's worth. Car dealerships try to gull you in with the frills and luxurby JackintheBoxster - Main Forum
