I bought a 3ml syringe with a 18 gauge needle from my local Walgreens pharmacy for $14, a tube of Moly CV grease for $5 as pictured below. I injected 3ml into the boot. When I went back to put more in I noticed a drop was oozing out so I stopped. I wiped away the drop, put some silicone sealant over the hole. I came back later and another dropped seeped out. Now that I think about it, if the purpby boxsterd - Main Forum
Here's a silly question...Do I have to take the control arm off to puncture the seal? I took a look under the car and it looks like the rubber boot is squashed pretty tight and I don't see how the grease is going to go anywhere after squeezing it in with a syringe.by boxsterd - Main Forum
But does the syringe have a needle at the end to puncture the boot?by boxsterd - Main Forum
I think I'm finally getting it... So in the last pic with the blue arrow, is that arrow pointing to the rubber boot that needs to be punctured? I plan on sealing the puncture with silicone glue. Thanks everyone!by boxsterd - Main Forum
Is what I have highlighted in red one end of the control arm and I have to follow it to the other end to find the boot to puncture?by boxsterd - Main Forum
I was asking for a pic of the control arm as it's installed on the car. Maybe I'm blind, but I looked under the car and I couldn't find it.I would also like to know what people used to puncture the boot. That hasn't been discussed before. Don't take it personally if I ask another person after they post about their opinion. It's not that I don't trust you, I just like to get other peoples' opinionby boxsterd - Main Forum
Hi, A few questions... 1) would it be possible for you post a pic of the control arm in your car so I can see what I'm looking for? I want to be sure I puncture the correct boot. 2) What did you use to puncture the boot? 3) Do you think this CRC White Lithium Grease would work well? 4) Finally, is this putting a band-aid on the real problem (worn control arm) that should really be fixed with aby boxsterd - Main Forum
Were you able to take a pic? Where do you squirt the grease? Do you have to put a hole in the rubber boot?by boxsterd - Main Forum
Can you post a pic of the ball joints where you applied the grease? I'm not sure what you mean. Thanks.by boxsterd - Main Forum
Do both left and right control arms need to be replaced or can I just replace one?by boxsterd - Main Forum
I have the exact creaking sound in this video, except I have to sit on rear driver's side fender to produce the creaking. At the 37 second mark, it says you can get rid of the squeak by putting a tiny hole in the control arm boot and squirting in some WD-40. What do people think? Good idea?by boxsterd - Main Forum
Say what you want about the 981, but I think it looks 90% the same as the 986 and 987, and 10% better than the 986 and 987. As for the "But as we move forward, there is a rawness, a simplicity, a pureness that the 986 and 987 had that you are being denied.", this can be said for ALL previous Porsche models, including the 911. You hear this argument from "base" model owners too in explaining whyby boxsterd - Main Forum
When my AOS went out there was so much smoke that it would have been unsafe for me to drive even a block. I had my car towed. Dealer said RMS needed to be replaced because the AOS went out. Forgot the reasoning, but somehow they're connected. When they got to the RMS, they inspected the clutch and recommended it be replaced to save on labor. They also recommended I get the LNS IMS bearings. So..by boxsterd - Main Forum
I would strongly recommend replacing the IMS with the one from LE Engineering. You'll have the transmission out so most of the labor is already done. I did it when I got a new clutch for my '01. My dealer stocks them. You're dealer might already have it.by boxsterd - Main Forum

I had the rear control arms replaced at around 60k miles for I think around $800. Now I'm starting to hear the same "clunking" sound going over rough roads at about 90k miles. Ridiculous. Dealer told me the bushings aren't replacable and I needed new arms. Is this true? Is there a cheaper alternative to new control arms?by boxsterd - Main Forum
Yup, it is now. It wasn't always. I drive 40-45 miles/day Monday - Friday.by boxsterd - Main Forum
OK, based on what I've read, I don't think I'll be using Safeway or CostCo gas. But what about ARCO? Any opinions of ARCO gas? BTW I will always use at least 91 octane.by boxsterd - Main Forum
Does anyone have an opinion on using "no name" gas such as Safeway or CostCo? I find I can save the cost of a cup of Starbucks coffee (large) by filling up at Safeway instead of Chevron or Shell. Is using "no name" gas a no-no?by boxsterd - Main Forum
Yeah I was really nervous of the flashing CEL, but I was on the freeway and the car was running perfectly, and it did stop flashing after a minute. Since it's no longer flashing or on, is it still possible to get a reading from a OBD reader?by boxsterd - Main Forum
So today while I was trying to get on the freeway I had to accelerate hard in 4th gear on the on-ramp because it didn't look like a driver in a honda civic was going to let me merge. The check engine light starts flashing for 1-2 minutes then goes off. What does that mean?by boxsterd - Main Forum
What's a reasonable offer to make on a hardtop for a 2001 base boxster in very good condition? I believe the MSRP is about $3,000. Would $1,000 be an insult?by boxsterd - Main Forum
$12,500 is too high. My advice to you is set your asking price on market conditions (i.e. what other similar Boxsters are selling for), NOT what you paid for it.by boxsterd - Main Forum
Do you have any pictures? Of the woman I mean I'm with you, I'm more interested in the Cayman. BTW, don't be surprised at the salesman, I'm sure they're given ample training to behave with female customers.by boxsterd - Main Forum
How much were the rear shocks to replace?by boxsterd - Main Forum
The faint rear suspension clunky sound is back when I go over rough roads. Last time, only 45k miles ago, I had to have both rear trailing arms replaced at a cost of $800. Also this time I've noticed after driving if I put my weight on the top of the rear driver's side fender I can hear squeaking. Not sure what that's about. My question, do I need to get this looked at and fixed ASAP or it will gby boxsterd - Main Forum
What's the need for this plastic flap in front of the front tires? The flap on the passenger side fell off and I'm wondering if it's worth replacing. If so, any one know the part# for the screws? TIA.by boxsterd - Main Forum
