I've always been afraid to use jack stands out of fear that if I didn't center it right, or some other user error, it would slip and the car would fall and smash my head. I use rhino ramps to change the oil. I feel safe when I see the rear wheels fully on the ramps.by boxsterd - Main Forum
I've had this minor cam cover leak for years….I never notice any actual leakage. No drops of oil on the garage floor. No drop in oil level from the electronic dash gauge. However I do occasionally notice a faint "burning" smell after driving. Do you think the 10w-40 oil will help with that? Do you think I should get the leak fixed? Dealer quoted me $1500 to seal the cam covers.by boxsterd - Main Forum
Well I took my car to the dealer and they said the installer broke the microswitch which was causing the hood to open with the doors. I have no idea why the microswitch would do that. The good news is the installer told me they would pay for any repairs. But it gets more weird - the problem is now fixed! I noticed after I got my car back from the dealer opening the door no longer opens the hood.by boxsterd - Main Forum
I didn't feel any dampness. The carpet around and under the seat is dry. It's very strange. It's like they reprogrammed something in my car so if the driver's side door unlocks, the hood unlocks too. If I unlock the driver's side door either with the remote, or by inserting the key and turning it, the hood unlocks too. Strange. I just hope it's not expensive to resolve. That's possible. It was raining when I dropped off my car. What is the CLU and where is it located? Do you think I can just wait a few days for it to dry (assuming that's the problem)? Can I try drying it myself? Thanks.by boxsterd - Main Forum
So today I picked up my car from the shop after I got a new GAHH top with glass window installed. I drive off and notice the dash warning red light on indicating the hood or trunk is ajar. I pull over and notice the hood wasn't locked so I press it down and drive off. After a few blocks the light goes on again. I pull over and sure enough the hood unlocked so I pressed it down again and drove it.by boxsterd - Main Forum
I talked with the parts guy at my local dealer and he said it's not as simple as installing the spinlocks on my car, buying someone's hardtop, popping it off, and popping it on my car. He said there might be other hardware required and some boosters came with the hardware and some didn't. Is he right, or is it as simple as I think? I realize there might be some adjustments required for a good fitby boxsterd - Main Forum
Quotedennisafrompa Had a gaurds red top painted arctic silver then again to GT silver when I changed cars. It cost around $400. That was back in '00. and '04. How did it turn out? Did it look OEM?by boxsterd - Main Forum
I'm having a bit of a problem finding an arctic silver hardtop. I did find an ad for a black hardtop at a reasonable price. What do people think about buying it and repainting it arctic silver? Any idea of the cost? Anyone have experience doing something like this? Thanksby boxsterd - Main Forum
Recently a woman ask me what kind of car it was as I opened the door to get in. I thought that was interesting considering the Boxster has been out now for 15 years. This is in the San Francisco bay area, where Boxsters are a dime/dozen. I told her it was a Porsche Boxster, and she said "pretty car".by boxsterd - Main Forum
I'm looking for an arctic silver hard top for my 2001 base Boxster. Prefer local (San Francisco bay area) seller so I can pick it up. Thanks.by boxsterd - Parts for Sale
$600 for just a new plastic window sewn in seems like a lot, considering I can get a new top with glass rear window for that much, albeit installation is extra. What do you have against replacement tops with the glass window?by boxsterd - Main Forum
While cleaning the rear window this weekend, the plastic window started to tear off. See pic. I wasn't pressing particularly hard. What do people think about getting it repaired? Cost? I'm also considering replacing the top with the top with glass window from autotopsdirect.com Anyone have any experience or comments regarding tops from autotopsdirect.com? Thanks.by boxsterd - Main Forum
So I was involved in a fender-bender and my Boxster got some minor scratches on driver's side rear quarter panel as shown below. I waxed and buffed out as best I could. Is there something I can do to bring it back to "like new" without a repaint? I heard something about some special procedure where you apply touch-up paint and buff/blend. I don't care so much about the biggest scratch on the plasby boxsterd - Main Forum
Hi, Sorry, nothing about Boxsters, but I didn't know where else to post... I got some new tires on wife's Hyundai, and after fewer than 500 miles, I noticed a chunk that's becoming detached as shown below. Some questions 1) Is this a tire defect and am I entited to warranty replacement? They're Kumhos purchased from tire rack. 2) Is it dangerous and should I replace the tire? 3) If it's not a defby boxsterd - Main Forum
Are there any 100k mile spark plugs for the boxster?by boxsterd - Main Forum
Yes the window slightly drops. If it dropped 1mm lower it would be perfect.by boxsterd - Main Forum
Anyone know how to adjust the window (driver's side) so it's 1mm less high in the top most position. Now with the window rolled up to the top, when I open or close the door the very tippy top catches the edge of the convertible top. I think if it were set just 1mm lower it wouldn't catch. I've tried the trick of raising the window and holding the button for 10 seconds with a towel rolled up to crby boxsterd - Main Forum
I'm thinking of replacing the soft top of my '01. I found these two below, from GAHH and Auto Tops Direct. They seem to be very similar, if not the same, and yet there's a $300 price difference. Anyone know why there would be such a big difference? Is the GAHH top better? Also, is top replacement a DIY? How hard is it? Thanks.by boxsterd - Main Forum
Can anyone recommend a TireRack installer in the East Bay areas of California, e.g. Berkeley or Walnut Creek, that will install tires without scratching the wheels? Thanks.by boxsterd - Main Forum

I used the syringe and needle as pictured in my post above. I put around 3ml in the boot. Some oozed out. Yesterday I injected 3ml in the passenger side boot, since I read control arms usually wear, or replaced, in pairs. I'll give it some time and see if it improves.by boxsterd - Main Forum
