What's the brand/model# of the nav system? I've been wondering about doing something similar.by boxsterd - Main Forum
I think changing it now or in 4 months will have no effect whatsoever at all on your car (unless you plan on driving it 10,000 miles in those 4 months). But if it helps you sleep better, go for it.by boxsterd - Main Forum
Was that the GAHH top? I read that it hinders access to the engine compartment. Is that true?by boxsterd - Main Forum
Can anyone recommend a product and/or method for removing deep scuff marks? It looks like someone opened their door onto my door but not hard enough to make a ding. Thanks.by boxsterd - Main Forum

I got you beat I just got my car smogged for $40 (including certificate) at VIP SMOG CENTER in Pleasant Hill (CA). I would give this place 10 stars, for honesty, not to mention I passed. They are the first place I called and told me there's nothing special about doing a smog check on a Boxster vs. Honda. They are the first place I called that didn't try to charge me $80 with a song and dance aby boxsterd - Main Forum
hmmm....that place has a 1.5 star rating from yelp.com. Man, these smog check places seem worse that used car lots.by boxsterd - Main Forum
Where was the place? Can anyone recommend a place in the east bay, Northern California (i.e. Pleasant Hill, Cocord, Walnut Creek)? I tried taking it to this place in Berkeley and they tried to bait-and-switch me and I passed.by boxsterd - Main Forum
The steering wheel of my other car (2008 Hyundai) slightly vibrates/shakes at 70 mph. It has relatively new tires. It didn't do this when I got the new tires installed about 10,000 miles ago. Any ideas what could be wrong? TIA.by boxsterd - Main Forum
Where do you guys go for the smog check (California)? Dealer wants $150. I'm not sure those $40 places can do it.by boxsterd - Main Forum
How much was the used top and frame?by boxsterd - Main Forum
I looked around today and sure enough I found the unused crush ring. I didn't change it after all. There you go. Pay that 25 cents (or whatever it costs) and change it with every oil change.by boxsterd - Main Forum

Well I checked this morning and unfortunately I still have the oil leak, although it seems to be less severe. It looks like just a couple of tablespoons over 1-2 days. I think I have these choices: 1) Take out the drain plug and this time be absolutely sure to replace the crush ring and replace any oil lost in the process (I'm guessing at least a few quarts) after putting the plug back in. 2) Tby boxsterd - Main Forum
I have N-rated PS2s which is overkill for my driving habits. I have no need for Super Sports, which I'm sure will also be more expensive. Only reason I have the PS2s is I'm anal about using only Porsche approved parts, for everything.by boxsterd - Main Forum
Yeah I always thought the crush ring was to prevent overtightening the drain nut, not act as a seal preventing leaks. Any ways I tightened the two nuts at the bottom of the picture yesterday and the drain nut and so far no more leaking. So we'll see. BTW the bit that got stuck in the drain nut fell out somewhere on the road. Hopefully I can pick one up at the hardware store without having to by aby boxsterd - Main Forum
It's possible I didn't put in a new crush ring but I'm 90% sure that I did. If you notice the leak pattern it looks like it may be coming from the two nuts at the bottom of the picture. I did tighten them both last night.by boxsterd - Main Forum
I changed the oil in my 2001 2.7L Boxster last week and noticed about 1/4 quart on the garage floor a couple of days later. Before I changed the oil and filter everything was fine, no leak. Why all of a sudden after I changed the oil and filter I have a leak? It doesn't seem to leaking as much as before. I took a pic of where I think the leak is coming from based on the leaked oil on the garage fby boxsterd - Main Forum
This has always bothered me. I changed my oil/filter today using rhino ramps. I can never cleanly drive off the ramps. It seems always one "shoots" out ahead of the other, and my car makes a disturbing "THUNK" landing off the ramps. Is there a way to cleanly drive off the ramps with the ramps in place? I was thinking about adding rubber feed to the button of the ramps so they don't slip. I'm concby boxsterd - Main Forum
Seems about right, considering parts alone are about $100. I always do it myself because I want to do it right. I doubt the dealer waits as long as I do for all the old oil to drip out. I've also heard horror stories about bad things happening at the dealer like putting the wrong fluid in the wrong place or cars getting dented, etc. I only take my care to the dealer (or mechanic) only when I absoby boxsterd - Main Forum
Any harm in putting off this repair for 6-12 months?by boxsterd - Main Forum
So here's the latest...get this...I called the guy up ready to make my offer of paying him $500 cash or taking it to my insurance company if he wanted more, and he said forget about it! He said he's a Chrisitian, and said, and I quote, "Jesus paid for it 2000 years ago." I don't know what to think. It's very strange. Does anyone know of any scams that goes like my story or if there are any "gotchby boxsterd - Main Forum
We had another "fender bender" about 10 months ago (this time my fault). My fear is the insurance company is going to see a trend and raise rates. After all you said the rate is based on the insurance company's predictions of future accidents.by boxsterd - Main Forum
Hi, I have a new problem. I noticed my '01 Boxster make a "flexing/creaking" sound when I go over bumps or sharp turns that are downhill or uphill. And when I'm parked, if I push down with my weight, on the rear left or right wheel well, I can hear a "creak" sound. Very annoying. Any ideas what it might be and how much it might cost to fix? Enging mount? TIA.by boxsterd - Main Forum
