Here is some info on the burn potential: Burned lensesby BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
You didn't say, but I'm assuming you have litronics? I recently replaced the driver's side and it isn't too difficult. I ordered the OEM bulb on-line, I don't recall the site, but it was ~$75. You have to use the headlight tool in the tool took kit. For removing and replacing the light unit, I used Skyler's DIY page: Skyler's Litronic install DIY Once you get the unit out, there is a panel on tby BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum

I wonder how long Porsche could continue to produce sports cars if they didn't have the SUV & Sedan subsidy?by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
I was just throwing it out there after reading a BABBLERS.ORG post about LN IMS retrofits. We have a local indy, Porsche factory trained and an all around great guy who has done has done at least 5 cars that I am familiar with. IIRC, 4 of the OEM IMSs were in decent shape and one showed excessive wear and play on a car with 35k miles. This particular car also had a badly warn motor mount and justby BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
Is it possible that a faulty motor mount and the vibrations they cause could produce added stress on the IMS? Since the engine and tranny are joined, I suppose they would move in unison, but I'm not too familiar with that area. I know mechanics doing the IMS upgrade have reported some OEM IMS are still in great shape and some are in bad shape. I wonder how many of the cars with a bad IMS wereby BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
Hmm, used car salesmen telling the truth... perhaps we are heading for the Apocalypse. Thanks for the article, Marc.by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
I've heard a lot of dealer commercials (M-B, Lexus, Audi, etc.) telling lease owners that their cars, "have increased in value". I thought it was a B.S. trick to get them to turn in a lease early and lease a new one from their dealership and the car maker would cover any early turn-in penalties. Your information indicates there may be some truth to their pitch.by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
A new model built in a new factory... I wouldn't expect any hiccups on the first few off that assembly line. I know I always have to throw away the first few pancakes I make, I wonder if Porsche does the same.by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum

Happy New Year to all! Wish me luck in 2012, my '99 will become a teenager this year.by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
Congrats! Get used to your wife making fun of you. I still do the over the shoulder glance after parking... NINE YEARS LATER!by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
I know it was built after 12/08/98. I was just curious if the stamp on the engine cover had any significance. I do change my oil every 5k, since 90,000 miles and I'm due in another 1k.by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
I'll take a look at the door tag, but the stamp on the engine cover tells me the car must be newer than 12/8/98, unless they grab the cars off the shelf and slap a fresh engine cover on them on the way to the boat.by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
Perhaps Porsche builds them differently today, but I've seen 2012 models in show rooms well before Jan 1.by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
My '99 Boxster was adopted in 2001, so I don't have the details of the actual build. I did do a Carfax many years ago and found the first registration date was 04-15-99. There is a silver date stamp on the engine cover - December 08 1998, is this the date she was built? If so, this was a Wednesday and from what I've read, that was a good day of the week for car building... you don't want a Mondayby BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
I bought the top from Trygve, a fellow Pedro Boarder and Babbler. The Spec Racer projects are a bonanza for us "vintage" owners. Trygve gave me a great deal because I was close enough to pick the top up, so it was significantly less than an OEM canvas top. On the scale of difficulty, this was slightly more difficult than a brake job, but nowhere near the contortion requirements of a water pump orby BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
Small world, Trygve mentioned a potential buyer in Florida, thankfully I'm about 25 miles away, so shipping was a few gallons of gas. Trygve is a great asset to the Boxster community. My first brake job was done with his DIY site instructions.by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
We had a great time at Epcot and Disney World with the kids several years ago. Great way to beat the winter blues!by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
Rated (R)epair worthy I finally found time to install the new roof I bought recently, thanks to Trygve for the great deal. My top was approaching her teenage years and after having a new window sewn in in 2004, I was ready to replace the whole top. I wasn't looking forward to an OEM canvas R&R and the GAHH glass top didn't appeal to me. This is a fairly simple job, three bolts on each sideby BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
We're having an odd winter here, 60 degrees F here on December 28! Went to Muir woods, but there were so many people we decided to head up highway 1 to Stinson Beach. We stopped in Olema, Inverness and Point Reyes for a little wine, cheese and fresh oysters!by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum

I had Allstate for the first two and Liberty Mutual for the last repair and it seemed like SOP for insurance companies to offer zero deductible repairs. I'd be surprised if you're not covered. Good luck. As Marc mentioned, the price I'm sure they negitiate for repairs is a far cry from the $1,300 for a full replacement.by BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
I'm sure the insurance companies contract a low fixed rate with Safelite and others. I'm not sure what the industry success rate is for these repairs, in my case, it's 100%. I don't recall what an OEM Porsche windshield costs, but I'll bet its well above the $250 deductible. I have Liberty Mutual and when I called, they connected me directly with Safelite. I'm very pleased with the technician anby BoxsterBob - San Carlos - Main Forum
