The base 911 is supposed to drop down to a 3.4l engine (S stays at 3.8). Seems like the 1970s post-oil embargo all over again. At least this time around, it's not a surprise. So, technology has had time to be incorporated into the process and we get smaller, more powerful engines. Just might be time to go the e-Boxster route, however, and have the external sound package to atleast mimic the sby db997S - Main Forum
My thought is that if I had an extended warranty, I wouldn't tinker at all with the engine. I can see the IMS failing after the LN fix was installed and the company voiding the warranty due to a non-Porsche part inside the engine. Now, they may not do so with the magnetic drain plug, but why modify the engine at all and risk voiding the warranty. Could the company void the warranty over a $25by db997S - Main Forum
According to Forbe's, a whopping 84% of Boxsters are sold to boomers. That's the highest percent of any car out there. Number 10 is a vette at 63%. Boomer Carsby db997S - Main Forum

Just on a side note, Car and Driver ranked the 12-C as the most practical exotic/supercar, beating the new F-car and the GT2-RS, which came in third.by db997S - Main Forum

Sorry to hear of your problems. If it was the IMS, then the oil can leak out if the "bolt" brakes away from the engine block creating a hole for the oil to leak. I had a nice little puddle and my oil guage inside the car was a complete blank. As far as oil, how much did you end up having to put int the car? I'd charge your dealership for it, at their rate, not at your purchase price. I thinkby db997S - Main Forum
It seems very odd that this vibration came when you changed tires. Maybe one of the tires is not round and is out of shape, sort of like a flat spot. This is going to be way out there, but another possibility, which did happen to me once, is to make sure the front tires are on the front and the rears are in the back. It was a while ago, but I can't recall how I knew something wasn't right.by db997S - Main Forum
I think so, unless you are willing to do it yourself. Considering the amount of oil that goes into these cars (nine quarts), more than a third of that cost will simply be the oil, not including the filter. Jiffy Lube is in business to service your average American car with its average engine. What sort of oil does your local Jiffy Lube use, is it even synthetic? Mine does have an off brand thby db997S - Main Forum
I tend to agree with that theory being bunk. From personal experience, I purchased my Boxster S new in July 2002. A year later, I had the oil changed during the regular, annual check up (less than 9K miles). Three months later, with only 10,001 miles on my car, the IMS went. Also, if there was water in the bottom of the block, wouldn't that "float" on top of the oil? Not sure how fuel and oby db997S - Main Forum

Another big difference is the S vs the Base. It doesn't sound as though that is a big factor for you. For some, it is. Besides power and braking, some of the difference are mainly cosmetic. It could also be a difference between 18 inch and 17 inch wheels, but you may never utilize either to their fullest as is. Some also say the ride to the S is a bit harsher due to an uptick in performance.by db997S - Main Forum
Can't deny the power of the SUV. I'm sure the Cajun will catch fire in developing countries. Sales growth is misleading. It's easy to have huge gains with low volume--for instance going from 100 cars to 150 is 50% growth.by db997S - Main Forum
That's why on normal cars, you rotate all the tires, which you can't do on these directional tires Porsche uses. It woudl help wring out several more thousand miles if we could rotate left for right sides.by db997S - Main Forum
Telsa, Volt, Leaf, etc. are getting somewhat negative press because they seem to be way too optomistic on their distance claims. Like with MPG, it all depends on driving habits and in these cases, other electrical systems in use (A/C, heat, radio, nav system, bluetooth, etc.). I know when I do a roadtrip if I speed with the top down, I can get in the low 20s, upper teens with my 997S. With theby db997S - Main Forum

Sorry to hear about the metal in the filter. Trade it in for a 2010 if you can find one still on a dealer's lot. The ventilated seats are well worth it. Love mine. Even with top up and AC on, if I'm driving any distance, I'll put mine on low setting. It just sucks the heat right away from your body.by db997S - Main Forum
