Yes the cost of replacement is so high that I just live with it (2000 S 175K miles w/ standard halogen). I found it odd that OEM lamps would burn and crack the lenses but they did. Still perform fine I guess.by Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum

Why do most Americans think that all/4 wheel drive systems make their cars great in the snow???? And they spend money on these systems. The simple truth is that (driver aside) the most important thing is tires - way before all/4 wheel systems. This is the truth: I can't tell you how many spinning SUVs I pass in my 2 wheel drive, 4 snowed Porsche. These dopes just don't get it. Further, the cby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
This is the economic recovery pure and simple. Confidence is coming back. Management consulting and contracting is booming which precedes/leads all else. Regular hiring will never fullly recover because of a fundamental shift away from employees to contract labor even at high levels in business. No, our economy is back but it is different and luxury goods are purchased by those "in the know"by Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum

I want to make this clear: My car is typically covered with salt and crap for at least 2-3 months each year without a wash.by Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
My 2000 S has been my only driver for 10 years in Philly winters and now with 173K miles I have some insight into this salt thing. First, the only damage I have had, or am aware of, is heat shield rot. I did not see exactly what rotted but I think it was related to the fasteners. After about 4 winters, I would get a loud buzzing until the exhaust heated up. Then the next trip to my mechanic,by Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
I don't remember how long it took for my 2000S hardtop to start to squeak and creak, but let's say 5 years. It was driving me nuts. The creaks were coming from inside the hardtop. I flipped the top on a thick carpet and popped off all the plastic parts and liner stuff. It all came our real easy and went back together fine with no snaps breaking. It is really no big deal to snap all of thisby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
Oh yea? Here are two pictures of me in my 2000S doing the daily routine.... in real snow! In the first pic, I am heading out for a cup of joe and beer. No stoppin' me, my Boxster, and a good set of snow tires! In the second pic, that is me passing that ditched SUV - sorry, I couldn't help waving. In the third pic, I am helping emergency crews haul cardiac victims to the hospital all the whileby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
2000S - 10 year old - 174,000 miles. Driven all year long. Doughnuts in parking lots! Side sliders down hills! Terrorizing the house fraus in their SUVs and watching their cell phones fly! Spilling beer everywhere!!! Yeeehaaaa! The snow and salt pics are old but the shiny ones are from a few weeks ago before I put on the snow shoes.by Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum

This is what is confusing me. I thought the smell is leakage of the A/C refrigerant and if so, it is not the heater core. No?by Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
I've posted this issue before but it is really bugging me as I smell strong maple syrup from my vents. The smell became really strong after my mechanic put a bigger charge into my AC. I thought it would dissipate or would stop when I started to use my heater and not my A/C but this is not so. So... some questions: 1 - Is smelling this stuff going to destroy my liver, put even more holes intoby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
Odd, when I clicked on the twelfth button and pasted in my link, it disappeared from my message. My Comcast link above is exactly as it appeared between your img tags. I used the button on both of my prior messages with the same result.by Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum

Sorry I don't have a better picture as this was of my XM radio installation. If you install a Nakamichi unit, you will be very surprised that your stereo sounds much better. That Becker unit just does not sound very good and has some strange distortions in it. While I am not up on all the brands of car stereo systems, my buddy replaced his head unit in his Jeep with a popular brand and it sounby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum

Wow, a CEO who actually understands its industry's underlying technology. Listen for this reference. Gee...... I always imagined a CEO this way. Usually, the CEO is an aggressive politician who..... oops, better get back on topic. Cool car eh? Not a hybrid.by Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
I have not replaced the key batteries for my 2000 S - still the original batteries and they are 10 years old and 175K miles! I do switch keys every coupla years when I think about it so the loads were about the same. Now I think I am experiencing a dying battery or, maybe the button is failing. I push the button and nothing happens sometimes. So, I think I will just replace the batteries.by Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
They painted the blue but the silver was original plastic. Overall, I asked the paint shop to paint the silver ring near the tire as that is what I remember the factory option to be. I am not sure it is exactly as the factory option was, but I think it matches the overall scheme of the car. The S has some silver accents such as the silver trim around the windshield. Mine whistled about five years ago and really ticked me off. Then it just stopped and has been fine for years. I think it may have been debris, but I don't know . Part of the charm.by Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
# This thing has 10 years and 175K miles on it and look at that shine. Warning! Put on your sunglasses before you look. Zaino just wasn't doing it anymore and I realized the paint was just worn out so I decided to compound it. Someone gave me some sample packs of a new product called Maguiar's Ultimate Compound. Supposedly, (and proven!) it is a one-step compounding product that cuts but leaby Bruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) - Main Forum
