I've attached in the link another thread on what GM was don't with their Onstar product which got them into hot water; Two people filed lawsuits over their insurance rates going way up with no claims, after learning about the Onstar link to insurers. IIRC, the C8 Corvette has the Onstar as standard equipment. I'd like to think that they wouldn't share driving data on their C8 customers that hby MikenOH - Main Forum
Both cyber security and government monitoring. IIRC, automobile hacking was a hot topic a decade or so ago, but I haven't seen much on that topic lately. . The control issue, however, seems to be at the forefront. If you've renewed your auto insurance policy this year, you've probably been asked if you'd like to get a discount in your premiums if you agree to have a tracking device installed inby MikenOH - Main Forum

From the article: "The production version will undoubtedly look even sportier than current gas-powered models. Plus, it’s completely silent, so all you hear is the tires gripping the road." Silence is golden? Sounds like he's never driven a flat 6.by MikenOH - Main Forum

Thanks for all the replies. Guenter, thanks for all the detail supplied from your comparison shopping. I'm thinking of going with Costco with Mich. A/S 4 tires next year but they don't appear to do a a TPMS switch if desired.by MikenOH - Main Forum
I'll be replacing the current set of tires probably next spring and I'm thinking it might be prudent to do the TPMS sensors at the same time with the car just turning 11 years old. Would be curious what experience other 981 owners have had with their systems and if they did replace them, where the parts were sourced. Thanks for any help in advance.by MikenOH - Main Forum
I've had the Extreme Contact Sport 1 on since May 2017 and have about 18K on them. Right now they are at 7/32 in front--5/32 on rear. They worn evenly and are still decent in the wet. When new, they were the bomb--quiet, amazing in the wet, great dry traction and supple ride. Only down side noted was a slight decline in steering response which I didn't think was a deal breaker. Compare to the Pby MikenOH - Main Forum
Glad to see you've got car out --with the top down--despite the low temps. We've had ours out since late March. What a joy--you forget over the winter just how responsive this car is, especially when you've been driving a RAV4 with blizzaks on it for months. Hope to see you two later this year.by MikenOH - Main Forum
Late to this topic, but saw the total PCNA 2022 numbers yesterday in the latest Panorama: -718 numbers down around 20% compared to 2021 -911 numbers about the same -Cayanne up 20+ % -Macan down a bit -Taycan down 20% Supply issues have been mentioned regarding the Taycan, but I don't think that's been an issue with the 718 since it shares a lot of parts with the 911. Saw a discussion on this on another forum, with suggestions to resolve this all over the place. Pedro--what's the current best info on reducing parasitic drain on Porsche cars? Has it changed over the years (9896/987/981)? Currently, I lock mine and have a tender on the battery, but some people suggest unlocking the boot to ensure access to the battery. Thanks for the pics, Guenter. The Xmas eve storm wasn't the end of the world, but it wasn't much fun--a good one to miss. Pedro's car looks great.by MikenOH - Main Forum

A very detailed analysis of the 987 model. Having owned both a 986, 987 and a 981, the 987 seemed to be the model with the most significant improvements over the previous model--including interior , chassis and drive-train. And the styling still looks good after 15 years.by MikenOH - Main Forum

After the installation of a Interstate H6 AGM battery--same capacity and type as the Banner OE it replaced --the car ran at 14.4V on the 20 mile trip back home. Turned the car off and the battery read 12.5V on a multi-meter. The next day, after driving it 10 minutes, the meter showed 14.4, then it started dropping and stayed at 12.5 but would occasionally shoot up to 13.9. Same results the folby MikenOH - Main Forum
OE sensors are coming up on 10 years old and still functioning. I can understand replacing them when replacing tires at this point, however.by MikenOH - Main Forum
I'm sure the cars will be quick, but wonder about the weight and range--especially when driven "spiritedly". Are there charging stations at the tracks yet? Maybe owners will include a generator with their track equipment..by MikenOH - Main Forum

QuoteGuenter in Ontario It seems that not all the 2013 - 2015 Boxsters / Caymans are affected. Would there be different axle carriers for different options like PDK vs manual or suspension like standard vs X73 vs PASM? Do they have 2 or more suppliers for the same part? Just wondering. Good questions. Given the numbers of the cars affected by the recall (4K?), you'd think all cars in that pby MikenOH - Main Forum
Got an email from the Penske dealership in OH that the appointments are being set for the installation of those new parts--all cars in the recall range will get them. Cars will be kept for 2 days and a loaner supplied. It sounded like the earliest appointments will be in Feb.I decided to put ours off until the end of March, since it's tucked away in a corner of the garage on casters.by MikenOH - Main Forum
Nice write up--please post further impressions after you're past the break in period. Regarding the gearing, our 981BS might have benefited from shorter gearing for driving around town but it's not the end of the world. Having said that, few if any of us will get that chance to get close to the red line in 6th gear anywhere in this country. I had a chance to drive PDK equipped 718 at the launcby MikenOH - Main Forum
