It was the AOS. The check engine light came on days before I took it in to the mechanic and I read the P1128/1130 OBD codes. He did some kind of pressure test on the oil filler opening. Replaced the AOS and all is good.by boxsterd - Main Forum
AOS was probably last replaced around 50k miles ago. IIRC it was replaced after there was massive amounts of smoke from the car. There's no smoke. How much is it around to replace the AOS?by boxsterd - Main Forum
Hi does anyone know what's wrong or this is an easy DIY to fix? When the engine is warmed up and I'm at a stop sign the RPM needle goes back and forth between the 3rd and about the 4th tick mark. It's a 2.7L base boxster. Could it be worn/dirty spark plugs? Thanks.by boxsterd - Main Forum
I hear the 918 is not a bad hybrid either.by boxsterd - Main Forum
Biggest fear? Why? The top of the line Ferrari and Mclaren is a hybrid. I'm looking forward to it. Could be my next car depending on price.by boxsterd - Main Forum
How much was the evaporation valve replacement? I just had it done on my wife's Hyundai and it was about $400 total.by boxsterd - Main Forum
front pads/rotors/sensors should be about $1300 at a dealer. Instead I went to an excellent independent and had done with OEM parts for about $1100. This was for an '01 base with 17" wheels.by boxsterd - Main Forum
I thought the reason to use a 0W instead of 5W is because most of the wear on an engine occurs when you start it up from cold and 0W provides better protection in cold.by boxsterd - Main Forum
Any thoughts on this product? Safe to use with 2001 Boxster?by boxsterd - Main Forum
I'm probably going to get sh** for this but I'll ask any way. So I have 16 year old Boxster with about 130k miles on it and it has a minor coolant leak due to cracks in the reservoir. By minor I mean I add around 1 gallon total of coolant/distilled water mixture about every 2 months. What do people think about using kseal? Mind you topping off the coolant few weeks isn't too much of annoyance buby boxsterd - Main Forum
Does CPO mean the car has never been in an accident or never had body work?by boxsterd - Main Forum
Are you on the original brake pads, i.e. new when the rotors were new? If so I think you can wait for the brake wear light to come on before replacing both.by boxsterd - Main Forum
My 2001 Boxster has been making this faint noise and I managed to record it. It sounds like something is loose around the steering column or under/behind the dash. You can hear the sound from It's most noticeable starting at the 20 second mark when I'm coasting to a stop and there's less engine noise. Any ideas would it could be? Thanks!by boxsterd - Main Forum
Won't the pads still "squeak" when it it's time to replace?by boxsterd - Main Forum
I have a slow coolant leak on my '01 base and it's from the coolant reservoir tank. Pull back the felt covering in the trunk, passenger side, and you can check for dampness yourself. I seem to be adding about 1 gallon of coolant/distilled water mixture per month.by boxsterd - Main Forum
If I were you I would buff out the scratches/scrapes and leave it as-is. The denting doesn't look too bad from the pic. Seeing mis-matched paint in the right lighting (e.g. at a gas station) would bug me more than minor dents.by boxsterd - Main Forum
I would get it fixed if I were selling to a private party. As it is there other problems with the car, squeaks, rattles, electrical, etc... So I will probably trade it in and get whatever I can for it. I've had it for 15 years so anything is a bonus. I feel I've gotten more than my money's worth. I may even donate it for the tax write off.by boxsterd - Main Forum
Hi, sorry to bring up this topic up again but I'm wondering about a new scenario. In case you're wondering why I'm asking this again is because I plan on getting a new car in around 5,000 miles, and I'd rather not spend $1k for new rotors and pads, if possible. Currently the brake wear light comes on occasionally. Does this sound right for the progression of brake pad wear to failure: 1) brake wby boxsterd - Main Forum
Anyone have any experience with this front and back brake job kit? Seems like a good deal for rotors, pads, and sensors.by boxsterd - Main Forum
Hi, The brake wear sensor light is turning ON, then it's OFF next time I start the car, and turns ON again after driving several miles... I.E. it doesn't stay ON constantly. Does this mean the sensor isn't completely worn and can be used again when I change the brake pads? TIAby boxsterd - Main Forum
Well, if you think the 986, 987 or 981 is better than the 718 because of the exhaust sound, the expression "cutting off your nose to spite your face" comes to mind.by boxsterd - Main Forum
I always found it funny people complaining about the latest model's looks when 99% of the exterior is the same as the previous models. You don't like the sound? Get an aftermarket muffler. Having been a 986 owner and PPBB/PedrosBoard member for almost 15 years, what I've noticed is that generally speaking, the closer your model is to the new model, the more jealous and critical you will be of tby boxsterd - Main Forum
That's amazing. How much do you estimate you've spent on maintainance, excluding new tires and oil changes?by boxsterd - Main Forum
Is it true the 991.2 pipes in exhaust sound electronically through the speakers like BMW M models?by boxsterd - Main Forum
Yes the light is intermittent. It was off for about week (daily driver). Yesterday it came on. It's off today. The reason I'm thinking of not doing anything (unless it's a safety issue) is I may buy a new car end of the year.by boxsterd - Main Forum
Did you also replace the rotors or is that optional?by boxsterd - Main Forum
Hi, These past couple of months the brake wear warning light has come on during driving. It is off next time I drive it. It will be off for a couple of weeks or so, then come on again while driving. This has repeated a few times. Should I get a brake job ASAP or can I wait until the light stays on always? Any idea how many miles I can drive before I need to get a brake job? TIAby boxsterd - Main Forum
The biggest cost is the alternator, I think $1600 for new OEM. New battery I think was $250. Will/can a dealer order a rebuilt alternator? I would love to pay a few hundred dollars instead of $1600.by boxsterd - Main Forum
FYI - it turned out to be the alternator. I'm having it replaced at the dealer for $2300, including new battery. I had serious reservations about this, and considered donating my car, since the car itself is probably worth around $6k and I have plans to buy a new car next year. But the wife intervened and said it would be a hassle sharing 1 car for 12 months. I figured if I pro-rate the cost overby boxsterd - Main Forum
