Fog lamps are for fog. So why is it that numerous people who have fog lamps use them in normal city traffic? On the highway? The rear fog lamps are relatively blinding, and the front fog lamps are just annoying. So why do people use fog lamps in non fog conditions? Oh, and we P-car drivers can end our superiority -- this peeve arose from a guy in a very nice Cayman S blinding me as I was folby m4240z - Main Forum

Most unusual compliment I ever received on my Porsche was when the IMS failed, and my lovely partner in a red skirt with matching heels who couldn't turn the steering wheel without the power assist had to push it into a parking space, and said "Gee, how much did you pay for this car? It's way lighter than I ever would have thought...."by m4240z - Main Forum
QuoteGuenter in Ontario Actually saw a number of Porsches. An older 911, 997 cab, 968, 986 and two 981's, a Platinum Silver one coming the other way and this Black one. Anyone here in Jordan today? Did the wave and had return wave and smile 100% from the cars coming the other way. No, but headed there next weekend -- can't wait....by m4240z - Main Forum
QuoteJoanne in OC When I was driving around town, I usually shift at 4500. When I was driving more aggressively I shifted closer to 6. But when I was going uphill, I would be going 75 mph in 5th gear, when the car slowed or seemed to be working I would downshift to 4. I didn't usually downshift when I was going downhill, just coasted. With the PDK, around town it shifts really early and it waby m4240z - Main Forum
Quotejlegelis Reminds me of the transition from vinyl records to CD in the early '80s. Audiophiles couldn't wait for the CD: pure, clean, no noise, wow, or flutter, minimal distortion, perfect duplication. I owned a Sony CDP-101, the first commercial player - my friends (college students) marvelled. Fast forward thirty years and people crave the noise and warmth of vinyl, the glow of tubes,by m4240z - Main Forum

Ode to the Boxster A car with which it is that you don't want to mess, Save for those with a bad IMS. Those who are lucky and only do keep A Rear Main Seal from which oil that doesn't much seep. The handling and prestige do indeed others impress, Especially when they equate one's car with success. It is therefore far better to have a P-car with its much smaller mass, Than to be seen in a BMW anby m4240z - Main Forum
QuoteSteveJ (2010 987 base, manual trans) Great photos. This year makes a big difference for me as well. A year ago I was without a Boxster. My wife and I were vacationing in Bruges, Belgium when a 981 drove by. My wife ran down the narrow street to get a better look while she was asking "What is that car?" The Porsche, silver with top down, pulled into a parking spot and she got a good chanby m4240z - Main Forum
I've got a pair of amber front side marker lights from an '03 986 that are in perfect, mint, shape FREE to a good home. These were replaced by grey tinted ones my wife gave me as a Christmas present (sentimental girl that she is), so they were on the car for about a month. I'll even mail them to you by snail mail. Only condition is that you agree to do a good deed by passing something else onby m4240z - Main Forum
QuoteGuenter in Ontario QuoteJoanne in OC I guess it doesn't take much to get me excited ...... What would I do without you guys? I do feel much better, now I have to find a place to hide the key. Quotefrogster Quotegrant They seem pretty darm popular today. Grant maybe it was the general feeling at that time? wonder how other sports cars were faring then. was it only porsche? I remember going into the dealer back in 1993 -- I had no money. The recession had taken a huge bite out of most people and a sports car wasn't really on my list of consumables. The GT3 and Turbo get PDKs only because it eliminates the cost of R&D for a new transmission in a limited number of cars, when the vast majority of purchasers of these cars are either ROGs (Rich Old Guys) who prefer not to row the stick, or guys who will race the cars on tracks where the PDK is a substantial advantage. For the mouldy figs here, Porsche will continue to offer, IMHO, a stickshby m4240z - Main Forum
Twenty years ago, or so, Porsche announced what was to be their salvation in the form of a mid-engined concept car. Porsche was seriously on the ropes in '93, having a moribund 911 with it's legendary but difficult handling (to be supplanted in '94 by the 993, the last of the great air cooled engines. The 964 could be had for really cheap, as they resonated with few, and the 928, was for some,by m4240z - Main Forum

The reality is that technology and rationalization within the car industry has changed the game significantly in the last ten to fifteen years. Original Porsches were parts bins cars, sourced what they could from VW, and made what they needed to, in limited numbers (hence the cost). Today's technology allows manufacturers to design quickly, smaller batch items, and put them into a car at a loweby m4240z - Main Forum

So a few weeks ago, I had the misfortune of having a streetcar power line land on my roof. Thankfully, it was closed, as it hit the car where my head was. I had the outer top replaced with a factory top, and I have to say, it's f!@#ing expensive. Fortunately, insurance paid the lion's share, but in total, the bill was about $5.5k before taxes, which is a staggering sum of money. That much beinby m4240z - Main Forum

QuoteGuenter in Ontario Quotem4240z It frankly would annoy me. I find driving the Boxster is a refuge from e-mails and all the other stuff. I have (grudgingly) put in a Bluetooth device in my 986, to avoid getting a huge fine for driving with a non-handsfree device, but I sometimes long for the days with no mobiles phones and e-mail tailing me at every turn.
