Quotegrant The steering never called attention to itself in a bad way. My two cents is that since i never even thought about it, in someone else's fancy car, careening over curbs, it can't be that bad. because I am a bit of a chicken. Grant I have to admit that I really didn't appreciate the difference until I drove the 981 and the 986 back to back, and took notice of it. My other car also hasby m4240z - Main Forum
I was at the dealer today, and the SA who is looking after the replacement of the fabric on my roof and I got into a conversation about the electrically assisted steering. He rather liked it, as it eliminated all the kicks and grabs from pavement buckles, but he felt it a bit numb as i do to some extent. Interestingly, the GT3 has a feedback loop, where Porsche engineers have taken the steered wby m4240z - Main Forum
QuotePedro (Weston, FL) ... also own, have owned or will own a Porsche sports car? Happy Porscheing Pedro On a totally non-scientific base, I suspect far less than you would hope. I was at a 911 drive event a few years ago. Lots of people off the Cayenne list. None of whom could drive, and found the 911 intimidating, and really were mystified by it.by m4240z - Main Forum
There was a time when Porsche was a sports car company selling sports cars. Today Porsche is a luxury brand, like Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Rolex -- all of which make fine products in their respective industries, but they will use the Porsche brand to their commercial advantage. The Panamera and the Cayenne both outsell the Boxster/Cayman and 911s presently, and Porsche has the highest profit perby m4240z - Main Forum
I have on '03. Drove a '13. I'm keeping mine. And my money. 981 is a much easier car to drive to higher limits but in my opinion less fun because its far too refined for my taste. Drive the two back to back.by m4240z - Main Forum
Interesting, as I did ask a friend who is a lawyer -- and he said it's difficult. If the tree were well maintained, it's an accident -- act of God. I don't have proof if the tree were maintained or not, so I'm just going to let insurance deal with it, pay the deductible and the betterment charge, but it is a interesting question.by m4240z - Main Forum
I had this grand idea years ago to take a trip around North America, but it would be in a 'vette. Just because you'd need American iron there.by m4240z - Main Forum
QuoteBruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) So... you have a new car (at some time in your life you did)...... when or how soon after receiving the car did you do the following: 1) Wax RARELY 2) Leather conditioner ONCE A YEAR 3) Polish with an abrasive (any, mild or harsh) ONCE EVERY TEN YEARS 5) Add a fuel system / injector cleaner (Techron etc...) ONCE A YEAR 6) Vacuum trunks RARELYby m4240z - Main Forum
Laz -- man, you've been everywhere!by m4240z - Main Forum
I really like the idea of just the model as it was on the 986 and 987s. I never really thought about how many times "Porsche" is written. On the other hand, do you know how many times you see the Golden Arches when you walk into a McDs?by m4240z - Main Forum
Actually, the insurer is pretty good -- they are proud of the 'excellent' claims service they provide, and when I made the claim, the adjuster had no problem with using Porsche parts. In fact, and I was shocked, he more or less said "It's a Porsche -- you don't want to replace it with some aftermarket piece -- you want to keep the car original."by m4240z - Main Forum
A streetcar wire fell and hit the roof of my car a couple of weeks ago, and insurance will be replacing it. After the adjuster took a look at the car, met with the dealer (I'm getting a Porsche original top), I was advised that in addition to my deductible, there was a 'betterment charge' of 25% of the parts (the insurance principle being that you are not advantaged due to mishap), which I thougby m4240z - Main Forum
QuoteJoanne in OC No one told me that they don't accept personal checks over $5K. .... Have to give them a cashier's check. I got worried for a minute. Kinda funny, they wouldn't let me write a check for $25K, but yet let me walk out by signing a contract for a loan where they didn't verify my income or job. They did check my credit score though. ...... They would have their money today iby m4240z - Main Forum
QuoteLaz n/t If you're in the cheque writing mode, I'd be happy if you would be good enough to write one with the payee as Downtown Porsche -- don't worry, it would be in Canadian funds, and about $70,000.00 would do just fine.by m4240z - Main Forum
QuoteRoger987 I need the full visual. Red heels, bare legs, sweaty. That was the good part. Pissed off. That was the bad part.by m4240z - Main Forum
I just noted however in the last image of you sitting proudly in your new car that the mirror blocks the view of your clear bra..... And is that really you? I thought you said you had grandkids.....by m4240z - Main Forum
QuoteGuenter in Ontario QuotePedro (Weston, FL) ... is not an automatic transmission. It's a double clutch manual that can be shifted electronically. At least according to the manufacturer. Happy PDK'ing Pedro To be correct, I think that should read "can only be shifted electronically". Without electronics, how do you activate either of the clutches? Quotegrant If i had more energy i juts might try it. We'll see. Rack out of a, say 964 (or old VW scirocco!), and some tie rods with lots of adjust-ability. How to mate to the steering and maintain safety would be a big concern of mine... Grant I had an old VW Scirocco -- it was one my dream cars, and I was thrilled when I finally got one. It had manual steering that was stiff in parking, bby m4240z - Main Forum
I saw a few weeks ago, a 914 on the street. A friend of mine had one (first person I knew who had a Porsche), and a teacher of mine in high-school also had one (a really hot looking blonde that was about six years older than me....) I thought that car was awesome. I doubt this would ever happen, but just imagine, a mid-engined RWD targa (targa for rigidity) 6 speed, about 2750lbs curb weight,by m4240z - Main Forum
QuoteGuenter in Ontario Quotem4240z True -- except being soundly intoxicated results in excessive right foot twitching..... I was driving east on the 401 a couple of weekends ago, and I noticed a guy got pulled over by a nicely fitted out Tahoe. The car looked remarkably like a civilian car, except for the really dark tint -- which hid the light bars, which lit up like a Christmas tree at a veby m4240z - Main Forum

Happy PDK'ing Pedro Ah, right -- how could I forget??!! That makes up for everything! That much being said, it has no torque converter, and it's stupid fast in its shifting. Quotegrant ...still gets driver involvement. I do think that part of the difference is the 911 vs the 981/986. Porsche knows the cross section of buyers differs. Few buy a Boxster as a status symbol (Porsche with panties, anyone?). The other problem is that Porsche once sold to a select group who sought out an uncommon little car that delivered on real performance and was different. No more. Nby m4240z - Main Forum

QuoteBruce In Philly (2000 S Boxster, now '09 C2S) A bit extreme? Get some sleep. The issue is that sports cars.... by common definition..... are light, maneuverable, and quick. Someone wrote something like "you could race it if you had to" as a definition of a sports car. The image of the 911 is this and deservedly so... in the past. QuoteLaz Between the e-steering, small trunk, and tarted-up looks (yeah, I heard that one) the car's headed for the dustbin of commercial history. You talking about the 'vette or the 981? (I think you lifted your post from a 'vette board....)by m4240z - Main Forum
Interestingly, lots of cars are going the way of an automatic, and for Porsche, I get it. Performance with PDK is better than it is with the 6spd, because no longer is there a torque converter sucking power. Computer have become so smart, they know when to shift, because they have accelerometers, and other telemetry telling the computer what it is that you're doing, so it knows, for the most paby m4240z - Main Forum
